That one was impossible. Do some research of the flightdeck plane spotting. There is no way possible he could have been responsible. His plane was in the wrong position vs the launch. I can't stand McCain but this is stupid scuttlebutt likely from a tinfoil source.

The Air Boss determines flightdeck spotting. Camera footage would show his position along with a spotting board {chart} where the AHS's shop is on the flighdeck. Cover up? No way in hell. Too many were on deck at the time.

Yea that incident was horrible enough without Scuttlebutt being added to it. It was an accident waiting to happen. Higher paygrades than McCain betted on some aged and detiorated bombs and the crew paid the price. A good lesson in you can't ever have enough up to date reliable ordnance.

The Navy uses the footage of the fire for training. All recruits see it in basic or did when I was in. I went to fire fighting school several times and we saw it there also. Mistakes were made after the explosions started mainly due to communication issues. That does not by any means take away form the heroics of the ships crew that day. I would expect as much. The HI-CAP System to remotely foam the flightdeck had not yet been developed but was developed as a result of that and other carrier fires in a short time frame.
