No, Jeb Bush won’t be president
The Miami Herald ^ | April 30, 2014 | Joy-Ann Reid

For Jeb Bush, who I believe really wants to be president, the theory of the case has always been this: At some point, his party, the Republicans, will break from the tea party. The angry fever that overtook the party when Barack Obama’s election produced its intended result: a universal healthcare bill, would break. And the movement, born on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange to slag underwater homeowners, and harnessed by the GOP to break the spell of bipartisanship Obama rode into town on, would have so consumed the party base, that cooler heads within the party would prevail, and Jeb would be their champion.

With time, the toxicity of the Bush name will have cooled; his brother, the former president, will enter the inevitable post-presidential honeymoon phase, when Americans forget what it was they disliked about their former commander in chief and start simply enjoying his fetching forays into watercolor.

And, the Jeb Theory of the Case goes, if the party tried to nominate a Ted Cruz or a Sarah Palin, he would ride to the rescue, putting the party back on track to win the White House. (Bonus points for carrying Florida.

For a time, Jeb’s path to the nomination was co-opted by New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who offered the same basic bona fides: a purple state governor who worked with Democrats on occasion (though is now appears they may have been under duress) but who wasn’t afraid to talk tough to teacher’s unions and to his own party....

Jeb has a huge reservoir of support within the TX GOP whose hapless members would like a “Texas native” Bush to vote for this time. I believe George P. is also a “Texas native”. “In TX, Vote for a Bush, It’s Important”.

The fact that George P. Bush will become land commissioner in January 2015 is proof that TX has far from ended its silly flirtation with all things Bush.

I would agree with this and it probably is true, but the Republican Nominee is a huge possibility. I never thought that McCain or Romney would ever have been chosen the last two rounds. Seriously, three years before the primaries, I know that nobody wanted those two as the nominee.....however, the minute they were named, NOBODY could bash either one of them or else. From experience, I could easily see this happening again.

The pattern goes back before McCain and Romney. The GOP has several noxious patterns with its presidential candidates, the “next in line”, impeccable GOPe positions and rollover to the Dems, and the best fundraiser. Jeb appallingly fits wins the trifecta on those qualifications.

Unless a better alternative materializes soon, I too am very worried.

Texas is getting their payback for the bushs and the funny part is that they are doing it to themselves. They are actively and eagerly importing people from new york and california. When the inevitable happens, be sure not to welcome any texans to your state.

Such a shame. No wonder a lot of conservatives stay out of the Presidential race. Why waste their time. Very disturbing.

I agree.

However, He WILL be the Republican Party's nominee. IMO.

I don’t think Jeb really wants to be President at all. That is why he came out with the “act of love” stuff. To deliberately deep six himself. And it worked.

Do you attribute this to being a conscious or unconscious view on his part? Is he afraid of running and losing, unlike his dad or brother? What GOP candidates do we have talking about running who aren’t at least for amnesty anyway?

Scott Walker would go much further, advocating amnesty and eventual citizenship for those already here, coupled with letting everyone in who wants to come here (he uses Mexico as an example) a similar path in the future.

You may be right, he may not really want to run, but he’s lived his life as if that is his ultimate goal, and going lovey on illegals doesn’t exactly separate him from the other GOP candidates (except, in tone and degree, perhaps Ted Cruz).
