Bob Shrum: No One’s Going to Challenge Hillary Clinton
The Daily Beast ^ | May 10, 2014 | Robert Shrum

Posted on 05/10/2014 3:50:10 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Ignore the talk about purity tests, progressive cred, and skipping to a post-presidency status. Clinton won’t be denied this time—and she’s going to make history.

The non-race for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, all but unprecedented in non-incumbent contests, is confounding to journalists and pundits, to the quoteratti whose words sustain their output, and to the partisan spinners whose mission is to bend the arc of the story. But the political cycle—-and the 24-hour news cycle—has its own relentless rhythms. If you’re one of the boys, and now girls, on the bus, even if it hasn’t rolled into Iowa yet, it’s hard to cover a foregone conclusion. If you’re a Republican, then just maybe Hillary Clinton, the certain nominee if she runs, can be damaged or deterred.

If you’re on the left, maybe you can nudge her ideologically. Or you can just come up with a fresh take, attention-getting and perhaps friendly, even if it’s implausible and unpersuasive, an unavailing piece of unsolicited advice.

All this will happen all the way until Hillary announces—and will mutate into variant strains until the day she’s inaugurated.

One recurrent meme is that she isn’t liberal enough to prevail in the primaries—a wish dressed up as analysis or a weirdly poll-uninformed argument....

The American people have lost it! Look what has been elected. Hillary shall run and win. I will not even bother to vote for any given office seeker. I will vote for the issues in my home state. We will have to pick up the pieces later.

Yes. I think there’s a good chance she had a small stroke. Those glasses are very strong with strange lines running down the right lens. Also since then she’s really porked up and gotten puffy....side effects from strong meds? Is there a doctor on this thread?

I hope you’d be wrong, but fear you are right. Any Dem candidate starts-off with about 250 electoral votes. Hell, a cold ham sandwich with a ‘D’ by its name promising more govt goodies would start-off at that point. It’d only need one or two of the contested states.

Meanwhile, the GOP candidate would have to nearly run the table to eeek past 269EVs. And what are the chances that we’re allowed a decent GOP candidate?

Prepping is the only sure thing at this point, it seems.

This could create a problem. Mischief-makers from the dems could change parties for the primaries and "vote for the worst" in the Republican Party. Then, if she doesn't run, the dems could choose someone at the convention.

Meanwhile, the 'pubs will have a real battle between the RINOs who'd rather lose to hillary and constitutional conservatives who want a candidate we can stand.

It just might be a brilliant stategy by the dems.

re: a qualified female opponent to hillary

She won't pull the voters away from hillary. It would be an acknowledgement that the next pres will be a woman, so the majority thinking will be it might as well be hillary.

hillary's a crone who has not aged well. The best counter is someone younger, intelligent, and established who appeals to youthful votes. I'd think Ted Cruz would be the best one to run against hillary, at least among those who we're considering now. But someone might emerge from the Benghazi committee.

Is Hillary's successful (/s) 'Russian Reset' the reason she's unstoppable?.. Or maybe her alliance with the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood and their destruction of Egypt and the mass slaughter of Christians throughout the ME???.. Or maybe her negligent homocide in Benghazi???

What's the big deal about Hildebeast? She's accomplished NOTHING, and who wants BILL wondering the halls of the WH again anyway? Hillary is 8 more years of 0bama!!!
