In the space of less than a week, 23-year-old Zachary Werrell went from unknown to boy wonder to angry toddler, depending on who was talking.
Werrell, who graduated last year from Haverford College, was lauded for having engineered Tuesday's shocking political defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
And, as campaign manager of insurgent David Brat, he was criticized Wednesday for scrubbing his Facebook page, which included provocative comments comparing the shooting of Trayvon Martin with abortion.
Multiple efforts to reach Werrell were unsuccessful.
His teachers at Haverford, the rigorous, liberal-arts-and-Quaker-values institution on the Main Line, described Werrell as a polite and focused young man whose conservative politics set him apart.
"Zach was an energetic and engaged student with political views a little outside the norm for Haverford College students," said Anne Preston, chair of the economics department, where Werrell completed a major. He "was not afraid to jump in with probing questions and thoughts."
Craig Borowiak, an associate professor of political science, taught Werrell in an introduction to globalization course.
"He performed moderately well and was an active participant," Borowiak said.
On Werrell's student page, the Leonardtown, Md., native described himself. He played lacrosse. He played guitar, bass, and banjo, dabbled in the piano and mandolin, and liked any kind of music "except for rap."
He loved crabbing, fishing, and Fords.
"I am a Libertarian. Love me or hate me, I am who I am, and I ain't changin for nobody," he wrote....

“whose conservative politics set him apart.”
just keep mulling that over in your brain
Comments Werrell hid from his Facebook page, which, WOW, an intrepid yahoo-news report screen-captured -—
‘Should sections of States be allowed to secede from a State if they feel they are un/underrepresented in the State Government?” Werrell asked on Facebook. “I say yes. I derive that opinion from our first foundational document -the Declaration of Independence.’
“Abolish the FDA!”
“There is a war on boys! Rough housing, playing soldier, etc., are all punished or medicated away.”
“Can someone who was outraged that George Zimmerman was found not guilty of ‘SOMETHING ANYTHING’ and who is simultaneously pro-choice explain the logical dissonance there? Ie. Why its not ok to kill someone who is banging your head into concrete but its ok to kill someone for simply existing who, through your conscious actions, you brought into the world?”
Seems like perfectly rational comments to me.
They failed to brainwash the boy in Communism, America-hate and cognitive dissonance as reality.
“On Werrell’s student page, the Leonardtown, Md., native described himself. He played lacrosse.”
Lacrosse players rule . . .
Yeah, wow, those comments are from kook city. < /sarcasm >
Why did he scrub them? They look perfectly fine to me.
I graduated from Haverford as well.
Yet here I am. :)
It’s not helpful when a campaign manager’s comments become a target drawing negative attention to his candidate.
They’re perfectly fine thoughts expressed a little harshly for a purple-state congressman’s aide.
On the other hand, maybe the fact that Republicans have become afraid to voice such logical, common-sense thoughts is the reason they keep losing in elections?
We know that democrats have no compunction whatsoever about voicing the most outrageous, hateful, illogical tripe. And they get elected for it.
It is time for conservatives to develop a backbone and stop being afraid of voicing common sense.
That may be, in some contexts.
But it’s still not helpful for a candidate’s manager to be the one blazing the trail.
I’m not at all convinced that taking the path of avoiding saying anything that might possible offend a liberal is the way to go. We already know that liberals go out of their way to be offended by anything and everything. Perhaps it is time for conservatives to stop trying to appease them.
Rap is not music. It's recitation with someone beating on a drum in the background.
I agree with you—but that’s just the last thing a campaign manager should be doing.
LOL..well, it’s obvious he received no encouragement from his leftist profs. However, I’m sure they provided plenty of motivation as they dismissed him as an inferior being at every opportunity. Now, he has accomplished more than they have and is receiving accolades for this stunning victory....simply delicious.
Centrists/Moderates want to seek him out and neutralize him quickly before he becomes a force to be reckoned with in the future.
So this article says some describe him as an “angry toddler”—but I don’t see any attribution for that sentiment at all.
I found the attribution. Wonkette, guilty of serious projection.

Thanks!

Absolutely. I am sick of seeing a steady stream of conservatives going to a microphone to “apologize” for each and every comment some leftist deems objectionable.
