Top Jeb Bush Adviser: Cantor Didn't Lose Because of Amnesty
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | June 14, 2014 | Tony Lee

Top Jeb Bush adviser Mike Murphy, who did not even pay attention to Dave Brat's campaign like Breitbart News did, has falsely been claiming that Cantor's embrace of amnesty for illegal immigrants was not the reason he lost last Tuesday.

Liberal writer Mickey Kaus had enough of Murphy's nonsense and slammed him on Twitter on Friday evening. Kaus became Brat's de facto press secretary and top advocate on Twitter in the last months of the campaign because Kaus, like Brat, opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants because it would hurt American workers. He mentioned to Murphy that talk radio host Laura Ingraham turned out 600 people at a midweek rally that was "all about amnesty." Even Mort Zuckerman and Eleanor Clift have said there is "no doubt" that Cantor lost his race because of the amnesty/illegal immigration issue.

Breitbart News reporter Michael Patrick Leahy covered that event in which Brat and Ingraham blasted Cantor for his embrace of amnesty. Contrary to what Murphy believes or perhaps stereotypically thinks of voters in Virginia's seventh congressional district, people can listen to talk radio -- and Ingraham's show -- on the Internet. That's how Dodger fans, for instance, can listen to Vin Scully calling Dodger games on the radio and wishing listeners a "pleasant good evening" on the East Coast, even though east coast radio stations obviously do not carry Dodgers radio broadcasts....

“ANd that Mark McKinnon has ALWAYS been a Democrat!”

I’m not familiar with the other two but I am with McKinnon and it was INSANE to ever let that guy near a Republican candidate. Just look at his picture on Wikipedia and you’ll INSTANTLY see what I mean.

There’s a reason Mike Murphy is a perennial loser.

Normalcy bias for a GOPe bell ringer. Amnesty couldn’t POSSIBLY be the reason, despite all of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

A Mike Murphy New York Daily News article from 2009:

To go forward, GOP must snap out of its Sarah Palin spell

He's one of the leading advocates of the Rockefeller Republicans.

I’m blaming it on the polling company that Cantor’s election campaign hired. If only they had polled more accurately things like this wouldn’t happen!/s

BTW, will Cantor get a refund from that company for doing such a bad job? If I was Cantor I certainly would be demanding one.

From that article: "Murphy is a writer and Republican political consultant who has advised John McCain, Mitt Romney, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jeb Bush."

Says it all, doesn't it? And if her background & academics are so weak, how has she held all those offices and he has none? What state's governor has Mr. Murphy been? How did his boy Mitt Romney do three years later?

From the Bush family perspective you don’t ‘win’ elections, you ‘buy’ elections and that means paying the right people; the right palms weren’t sufficiently greased in the Cantor race according to their view.

So ‘populist issues’ such as Amnesty or from the Bush perspective ‘xenophobic rants’ are never the issue, it’s all about the money. And to some extent that is true. They only go to the base with populist ‘talk’ when their paid consultants tell them they need to. This is why so many establishment republicans start talking the talk for a short while before the election.

The Bush perspective and approach works better in statewide Senate races where they can buy the moderate votes through ads and payments to precinct commanders. This worked in Texas for Cornyn, and in SC for Graham. We’ll see if it holds for Mississippi and Tennessee.

What we as conservatives need to do is to continue to distinguish ourselves from the establishment elites by waking up the base including the moderates and independents. The goal is to reach a critical mass, a tipping point where the current establishment loses credibility with those key groups. In a sense we continue to grow our base. If we keep it up the years 2016, 2018 could be the tipping point where we take back the GOP for conservatives.

The GOPe is nothing but a collection of cynical, corporate bedwetting elitists determined to destroy conservatism and the middle-class. They are in league with the other elitist cabal on the other side of the aisle. They just don’t like paying taxes.

You’re right, I overstated it. It is about 42:1

Brat spent $122,793

Cantor spent $5,100,000
