Tea Party Leaders Urge McDaniel to Run as Write-In Candidate Against Cochran
Gateway Pundit ^ | June 25, 2014 | Jim Hoft

Tea Party leaders and activists urged Chris McDaniel to run as a write-in candidate against Senator Thad Cochran in November. Cochran won the primary on Tuesday thanks to Democrats who turned out to support the incumbent Mississippi senator.

TIME Mag reported:

Chris McDaniel was defiant in defeat, but hasn’t signaled he’ll mount a long-shot write-in bid

Tea Party activists in Mississippi and beyond urged state Sen. Chris McDaniel to mount a write-in campaign against Republican Sen. Thad Cochran on Wednesday, following McDaniel’s stunning defeat in a primary runoff vote Tuesday.

“When the Republican Establishment acts like Democrats, what is the point of supporting them?” Tea Party Nation President Judson Phillips wrote in an email to supporters Wednesday morning. “Every McDaniel supporter in Mississippi from DeSoto County in the North to Biloxi in the South should stand up today and tell Chris McDaniel that if he runs as a write-in candidate in November, they will support him.”

McDaniel lost in a runoff to the six-term incumbent Cochran by only about 6,000 votes, amounting to less than 2% of the total count. Many of those who pushed Cochran over the top were either Republicans who’d been unmoved to vote in the initial June 3 primary (which McDaniel narrowly won but failed to secure the 50% needed to prevent a runoff), or Democrats who were inspired to vote for Cochran to prevent a Tea Party victory for McDaniel.

Turnout in Tuesday’s runoff was higher than in Round One, with about 55,000 more ballots cast, many of them by Democrats for Cochran.

McDaniel also won thanks to a racist flier attacking McDaniel.

UPDATE: We are waiting on a response from Jenny Beth Martin from the Tea Party Patriots.

UPDATE: The North Mississippi Tea Party sent out this email this morning:

To all my friends who worked for Freedom and Senator Chris McDaniel I want to give thanks to God for your efforts to do the right thing.. Our principles and values were expressed by Senator McDaniel with his life and voting the past 7 years representing district 42.

Those who watched everything happen I hope you fell shame for not working to secure the Freedom for your and my children and grandchildren.. Our future as a free people has now gone to a lower level that we will not be able to recover..

Please block my emails and/or ask to be removed from my mailing list.. NO EXPLANATION NEEDED..

Thanks to all who love God given Freedom,

bill

The very fact that the Tea Party has all kinds of races, ages & sex preferences seems to go unnoticed.

You’re correct!

“Independent candidates for federal or state office (including seats in the Mississippi State Legislature) must petition to appear on the ballot. The form of petitions is prescribed by the Secretary of State, and completed petitions must be submitted to the Secretary of State by 5:00 p.m. on March 1. “

Haley Barbour told McDaniel months ago that if he ran against Cochran he’d destroy him.

I don’t look for McDaniel to have a political future in this state.

I think a write in, in this case, might be a winner. I believe, usually that write in would cause a defeat for the Republican, however, we need to tell the Establishment Republicans that they better listen to us. If Chris does a write in campaign, I hope the Tea Party will back him. Its time to fight the RINOs and the Marxists in Washington.

I think he could win in court. 35,000 crossover votes that consisted of people who DID NOT VOTE IN DEMOCRAT PRIMARY and who WERE REGISTERED ON JUNE 4TH.

There were also twice as many absentee ballots, why? I never saw a passion for Cochran even when he appealed to Dems, why would they suddenly be on fire for a Republican?

Challenge them, Chris.

I read on another post that MS doesn't allow write in candidates unless there are unusual circumstances.

Viennacon..... What is up with you? You told me on another Thread on here that MS did not allow write-in candidates. Post #49 on this Thread:

Explanation..... please.

So then we only have two options:

#1. We pray that Thaddeus kicks the bucket and Chris runs as a write-in. Or.....

#2. Chris and his supporters vote for the Dem in November and hope that their votes, plus the Democrats votes will defeat Thaddeus and send him packing.

Is that correct?

Calling Tea Partiers racists will not get Cochran re-elected.

Uh.... I think it will. Did you see the racist flyer, filled with lies, that they sent out slandering Chris McDaniel a few days before the election?

He should run. Forget the GOP. It’s time for a new party.

I never thought I’d say that, but MS is a conservative state and deserves a conservative Senator

Bulls**t! If that’s the case, Thad Cochran would not have won Tuesday night.

Then someone should sue on grounds of disenfranchisement. You should still be able to vote for a candidate of your choice, right?

The best thing McDaniel can do is be a gracious loser and run again.
_____________________________________________________________________________________

So the GOP Establishment can do the same thing to him again? HELL NO!!! He is already damaged goods, thanks to the GOP Establishment..... just like Sarah Palin. You don’t see her running for office do you?

I’ve been told that MS does not allow write-ins unless Thaddeus dies or is removed from the ballot for some reason. And, I was told it’s too late to file to run as an Indy. So, there is nothing left for McDaniel and his supporters to do except to vote for the Democrat in November and give Thad Cochran and Haley Barbour the middle finger!

If McDaniel is to have a future, the best thing he can do is show he is a healer and someone that can bring people together. Play some Alinsky, work from within the enemy.

As for the senatorial election, I have been giving deep thought to Childers. Now, here is a man that is a Conservative, gives of his time to his church and community. Childers will spend time sitting down and talking to a person, he listens, and does most of his talking. He's pro NRA, Baptist, and loyal. Contrast Childers to Cochran who has never taken the time to return a letter or phone call to a Republican constituent and has spent the last forty years in D.C. Personally I like Childers. Now that I have a choice between a sell out weasel like Cochran or a man I know and like in Childers, who should I vote for? My beliefs are better served with Childers who I know than Cochran that has much of the same beliefs as does Obama. Childers I can pick up the phone and call and talk to him, not one of his handlers. McDaniel offered hope to my country, now that is no longer available I am thinking of going with self personal preservation. As far as the big picture, Cochran is owing to the Democrats now and he is no different in D.C. than would be Childers.

No need for vulgarity, but don’t you think that the estimated 35,000 Democrat cross-over votes had a wee bit to do with Cochran’s 7000 vote win over McDaniel.

Childers may appear to be a conservative. But, when the votes are cast in Washington, he will vote with the Dems (a.k.a. Progressives) when he is told to.

The only difference between Childers and Cochran is that one is a proud Democrat and the other is a lying, scheming, slimey, Democrat-in-hiding.

MS Code § 23-15-365 (2013)

(1) There shall be left on each ballot one (1) blank space under the title of each office to be voted for, and in the event of the death, resignation, withdrawal or removal of any candidate whose name shall have been printed on the official ballot, the name of the candidate duly substituted in the place of such candidate may be written in such blank space by the voter.

The provision doesn't exclude writing-in any other eligible person's name. It merely provides an example of a permitted name, IMO.
