It was said of General Eisenhower that if a problem seemed insoluble, his response was always to make the problem bigger. The reporter in this instance wanted to keep the problem small - limited to Christian reservations about endorsing homosexual behavior. Cruz enlarged the issue to what is being to homosexuals and to Christians by ISIS which is far more brutal than anything a gay would be likely to encounter from a practicing Christian in America.
