Donald Trump: I don't know why I'm meeting Ted Cruz
The Politico ^ | July 15, 2015 | Nick Gass

Donald Trump is meeting with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in Manhattan on Wednesday, though he claimed in an interview on MSNBC that he does not know why.

“Ted Cruz called me. And I don’t know why I’m meeting him, to be honest, but I do have respect for him,” Trump said on “Morning Joe” in a wide-ranging interview in which the Republican presidential contender commented on issues foreign, domestic and everything in between.

“I respect the fact that along with a couple of others, he came out and he came out very strongly and agreed with what I said on illegal immigration. And he came out very strongly and he came out early, and I respect that. I like him,” he added.

Asked about Tuesday’s announcement of a nuclear agreement with Iran, Trump said “it’s a ridiculous deal” and “a disgrace.” The United States, he said, “should have doubled up the sanctions.”

“Well, they didn’t read The Art of the Deal. Most people did; they didn’t,” he said. “I have seen the deal. I’ve seen it broken down in every newspaper you can imagine, and I think I know the deal quite well,” he added, when pressed about whether he had read the deal himself.

Trump also had harsh words for the political media discussing his first month on the campaign trail.

One thing he has learned is “how dishonest … some of the political media” is, in contrast to the financial journalists with whom he normally interacts.

“They don’t want to print the truth. They don’t want to say what you said. They don’t want to say what you mean. They know what you said, they know what you mean, and they put it in totally different words. It’s like you didn’t say it, it’s incredible to me,” Trump said, noting that he has become “more careful” in dealing with some people in the media as a result.

One such media distortion, Trump said, stemmed from the reaction to reports of his remarks about undocumented immigrants coming to the U.S. illegally from Mexico. Trump cited “five different sources” at the border telling him that Mexico is sending its worst. “They’re almost crying,” he said.

Pressed to provide the sources by Bloomberg Politics’ Mark Halperin, Trump demurred.

“I’ll reveal my sources, Mark, when you reveal your sources,” he countered.

He also took the opportunity to slam Republican rival Jeb Bush on jobs and once again claim that he would win the Hispanic vote.

“The Hispanics love me,” Trump said, adding that he would open up more jobs for everyone in the economy. “Jeb Bush wouldn’t know where to go to create a job,” he declared, telling host Joe Scarborough that Bush “only can follow you or a pollster. I can only go with what’s right.”

Trump, who came out on top of a recent Suffolk University/USA Today poll of GOP contenders, also trailed former secretary of state Hillary Clinton badly in a head-to-head matchup.

“I think that the person that she doesn’t want to run against is me,” he said.

Why would Trump or Cruz for that matter tell the drive bus why they were meeting with each other?

...“I’ll reveal my sources, Mark, when you reveal your sources,” he countered...

When you want to really upset the media, just start asking them questions.

And, there was this response, “That’s none of your business,” when asked about his personal gun use in a gotcha question by NBC.

Because he will be your next president...

Trump may be at the inauguration but it will be Ted Cruz taking the oath.

Love it. Simple honesty.

“Ted Cruz called me. And I don’t know why I’m meeting him, to be honest, but I do have respect for him,” Trump said.

And... Pressed to provide the sources by Bloomberg Politics’ Mark Halperin, Trump demurred. “I’ll reveal my sources, Mark, when you reveal your sources,” he countered.

Perfect.

Trump is leading in the polls, he's sucked the air out of everyone's campaigns, he's speaking with blunt honesty, not always PC and he doesn't care. NO ONE OWNS HIM. I really do not care if I do not agree with him on all policies, The Donald has my vote and is some much better than the likes of Bush, Rubio, Walker and the other wanna bes that look so dismissive in comparison. I still like Cruz, but am disappointed in many ways. Time will tell.

It would have to be Trump / Cruz. First, I cannot image Trump playing number 2 to anyone. Further, he’s got the money and microphone. Cruz is still way down in the polls, even dropped by many—people like me going to Trump. Cruz damaged himself re lack of amnesty clarity, the TPA fiasco, and now, his vote on Iran that gives Obama means to push it through. Stupid, but politics.

Cruz/Trump, I could live with that or Trump/Cruz, I could live with that too. Cruz is a smart man—maybe the smartest man in the race—He’s got a deal to make with Trump. Together they will be a pile driver against the RINOCRATS. A double Team that take the opposition apart— Its like Randy Savage and Andre the Giant. Even a Hulk Hogan couldn’t beat that team.

Well, you know, we all worry here about how less than a year old posters are going to vote. It haunts us day and night.

Cruz/Trump 2016 ticket?

Trump will not take #2, because it has no advantage for him.

Reverse the ticket, and it might be viable.

Oh no! Hey, maybe the older folks are a bit senile, stuck on what they did before, unable to see a better alternative, etc., etc., etc.

:)

Anyway, have a nice day!!!

Yes, why would Cruz vote against America and it’s constitution? It’s like he’s trying to sell himself to the elites.

I can’t believe so many here are falling for the Trump Con, it is as though this guy had no history before two weeks ago or is like it was with obama; words Trump everything else, who Trump really is does not matter so long as he says things that make people FEEL good, conservatives are supposed to be thinkers.

I too like hearing the bold and brash rhetoric, but the overall picture of Trump reveals he doesn’t mean it like we are hearing it.
