The GOP Battle Over Identity Politics Has Already Been Won
The New Republic ^ | December 7, 2015 | Jeet Heer

While moderates languish in the polls, Ted Cruz and his ilk are doing just fine.

It would be easy to dismiss Lindsey Graham as a sore loser even before the contest has been decided. In the Republican presidential campaign, his support has hovered between the negligible and the nonexistent. “I’m at 1 percent,” Graham quite honestly admitted to the Republican Jewish Coalition last Thursday. “The election is still long away. Help me stay in the race.” But it is precisely because Graham is doing so poorly that he offers some valuable insights on the outcome of a battle within the GOP that began with Mitt Romney’s defeat in 2012.

When not begging for a lifeline from the audience, Graham went on the offensive against the three candidates who have the clearest path to winning the nomination: Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz. All three, Graham argued, were waging campaigns that threatened to alienate constituencies that the GOP could ill-afford to lose, Hispanics (in the case of Trump) and young women (in the case of Rubio and Cruz). Both were identified by the Republican National Committee as voting blocs that were key to the GOP’s rehabilitation....

Graham seemed angry for most of his speech and when he walked away from the podium he stumbled and nearly fell. His flustered behavior seems to mirror the frustrations of sidelined Republicans.

2016 is primarily about defeating the GOPe / RINO / Rove / WSJ / Chamber of Crony Capitalist Caucus.

This is the “Near Enemy” of the Uniparty who must first be defeated before we can even find a liberal to engage and defeat. This Near Enemy has purposefully thwarted every potentially conservative idea for decades.

We have them on the rope. Only Rubio can save their bacon.

So right now, the most important mission is to defeat Rubio. Cruz is fantastic. Trump is plenty good enough.

Defeat RINOS!

Graham is a snake.

"ISIL" he always says. Not "ISIS". Very telling.

The point of the article is that the future of the US will be driven by identity politics. IOW the Democrats have won the political war and future elections will be decided on their terms.

I’ll also add that it wasn’t too long ago that Progressives were denying using identity politics, attacking anyone who’d accuse them of such of various forms of bigotry.

Now they’re crowing in triumph not only about having done it, but having won.

So this Senator who polls in the low single digits nationally explains exactly why no one is listening to the RINO fool.

Linda wants to pander instead of running boldly on the PARTY’S POLITICAL PLATFORM.

You are an Idiot Linda!

Graham is merely exhibiting his behavior from being a US Senator all these years.

That of privilege, exclusivity and entitlement.

So the candidate that has garnered 1% of the constituency is pontificating on how to garner more of the constituency?!?!?

Like the rest of the sellouts, Graham's a self-described Republican who wishes he was in the Demagogic Party. Just sticking to your guns (figuratively for the most part, but also literally) is more important for any candidate than idealogical 'purity'. The party's dingleberries (like Graham, Jeb, Rubio) can't understand that. And they never will. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

Trump is going to alienate all those millions of Hispanics who normally flock to the polls to vote for republicans.

If only we could get Graham to be the nominee, we’d see a tremendous upsurge of millions of blacks, Hispanics and gays wearing his buttons and waving his signs all across the land.

“So the candidate that has garnered 1% of the constituency...”

Remember, there’s got to be at LEAST a 1% margin of error!

Where do I even start?

“It would be easy to dismiss Lindsey Graham as a sore loser even before the contest has been decided.”

He is that and much worse.

” In the Republican presidential campaign, his support has hovered between the negligible and the nonexistent. “I’m at 1 percent,” Graham quite honestly admitted to the Republican Jewish Coalition last Thursday”

He as At 1% on a good day. Most times, he is at zero percent. Why would anyone listen to such a loser? Oh wait, its the communist New Republic. They publish anything and anyone that attack conservatives

As far as it regards Lindsey Graham, the contest has been decided already.

Off to the dungeon with him!

“Lindsey Graham” and “valuable insights” two ideas with no relationship to each other.
