DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Three weeks before Iowa kicks off the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are generating overwhelming enthusiasm among Republican voters in the state, along with concern, though not panic, among the party professionals who believe both are unelectable in November against the Democratic nominee.

Despite such fears, talk of a "takedown" effort aimed at either Trump or Cruz appears to have faded as the Feb. 1 caucuses in Iowa near. For now, there is nervous acceptance that two of the Republican Party's most divisive figures may stay at the top of the presidential pack well into the first month of voters' getting their say.

"Cruz would not only cost us the general, he would cost the GOP the future. Trump is not a Republican and he is not a conservative," said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos, who is not affiliated with a 2016 campaign. "The geometry is conflicting: If you limit one, you aid the other....

He couldn’t get anyone to buy his anti-anyone ads so now he says they’re just not willing to do it. Sounds like Soreloserman from 2000.

two of the Republican Party's most divisive figures

And at least one of which is on the verge of bringing the biggest tent since Reagan.

Pubbie elites should be thanking their lucky stars. They have been clamoring for a bigger tent for decades. Now that they may have a candidate making they happen, they are terrified.

The GOP future? I submit that there is not one iota of difference between a GOP majority and a GOP minority in the congress. They are a bunch of Dem butt kissers either way.

What is this belief that either The Donald or Ted Cruz would be “unelectable” against the (presumed) Democrat nominee in 2016?

The Democrats are in HUGE disarray, their leading “candidate” for the nomination to the Presidential race under a dark and widening shadow as to malfeasance of office while Secretary of State, and various unsavory deals leading to contributions to the RICO operation known as The Clinton Family Foundation, both of which are completely separate issues from the politics of personal destruction being run against all the females that were victimized by Slick with the tacit and sometimes nakedly open connivance of Herself, labeling them “nuts and sluts”. Add to that the failing capacity to focus on day-to-day issues, perhaps a residual effect of the brain damage and almost certain stroke suffered in the days and weeks after the fall and traumatic injuries of December 2012.

And the long-term effects of alcohol abuse and personal neglect of even a modicum of health issues.

Herself is WAY past her expiration date.

Trump is the Pub’s last chance to save the GOP. He’s the only one who can clean the stables and attract new voters who normally would never vote for the GOP. It’s not the GOP that is threatened by Trump, it’s the establishment and their crony capitalist buddies.

Very interesting statement. Wouldn't perceived un-electability of the overwhelming leaders in the primaries be cause for panic among "party professionals"?

The last two elections the party professionals told us who could win.

Those people are “pros” at losing.

The GOP future as envisaged by Mr.Castellanos, and Rove, and the GOPe in general, is as the reliable Designated Opposition wing of the Democrat Party.

The establishment doesn’t fear that Trump and Cruz are unelectable, it fears that they will win in a landslide without being beholden to the establishment.
