Is Republican establishment willing to stop Cruz at any cost?
Bob Dole, who has endorsed Jeb Bush, has weighed in on the budding Ted Cruz v. Donald Trump contest in the early GOP primaries, and backed Trump in the strongest terms. According to the New York Times, Dole warned of "cataclysmic," and "wholesale losses" if Cruz is nominated.
Dole's logic is viewing the Trump/Cruz contest explicitly in terms of what is better for the Republican Party establishment:
"I question his allegiance to the party," Mr. Dole said of Mr. Cruz. "I don't know how often you've heard him say the word 'Republican' -- not very often." Instead, Mr. Cruz uses the word "conservative," Mr. Dole said, before offering up a different word for Mr. Cruz: "extremist." . . .

Why is this a surprise? Dole and Trump ( pbuh ) are both K St crony capitalist supporters. trump ( pbuh ) will sign every pork laden bill McConnell and Ryan send him.

I’ll vote for Trump if that’s the only choice I have, but until it’s settled I’ll root for Cruz.
There’ll probably be dozens (if not hundreds) of them. People who HATED Palin when she was being flayed alive now think she’s the second coming of Joan of Arc due to her Trump endorsement.

I’m not a Cruz sycophant, but I think he’s a decent guy and would make a better president than Bob Dole ever would have been. The main reason for my anti-Dole vitriol is that I’ve never heard him say anything so forceful and strident against a Democrat. That, and he’s trampling on Reagan’s 11th commandment. Dole should have praised the guy he likes and left it at that.

Dole endorsed Yeb back in November. I’m not sure you can give 2 endorsements
in a primary election.
There will be a lot of sucking up to Trump if it looks like he will win
the nomination. That is just the way it is.
