NEW POLL SHOWS PINGREE MESSAGE WORKS

PINGREE'S RECORD FIGHTING CORPORATE SPECIAL INTERESTS CLOSES RACE TO SINGLE DIGITS

Aug 26, 2002 -- Portland, ME - A poll by national polling firm Lake Snell Perry & Associates shows U.S. Senate candidate and former Maine Senate Majority Leader Chellie Pingree continues to gain significant ground in her race against Republican Senator Susan Collins.

Reaching an increasing number of voters with her message, Chellie has moved within 9 points of Collins, who remains under 50 percent support. The new numbers are: Collins 47 percent, Pingree 38 percent, with 15 percent undecided.

The poll also shows that Collins is vulnerable. Just 41 percent of voters say they would re-elect Collins. Only 5 percent of undecided voters say they would vote for Collins.

"Voters are getting to know Chellie and discovering that on the issues that matter most to Maine's families like affordable health care, education and corporate accountability, Chellie Pingree is on their side," said Deborah Barron, Pingree spokeswoman. "This race is fast becoming one of the most competitive in the country. As Chellie continues to talk about her solid record fighting corporate special interests she will continue to gain ground."

This is a couple of weeks old, but I didn't see it posted anyplace. It's a Dem poll, showing Chellie Pingree trailing Susan Collins 47-38. The previous poll (released in May) from the same organization showed Collins with a 45-33 lead. I don't think this is anything to worry about right now.

I had, but this has some info I was missing. Thanks. GOP and media polls show a 20-30% margin for Susan. Don't think she's too worried.
