Those Rhode Island numbers look a little too optimistic for the GOP, though I'd love to be wrong. Agreed, though we can't call it a fluke poll. A previous SurveyUSA poll put the race at 48-44. So either they're on to something or they're miscalling this race (like it appears they're doing in SC).

I just read a review of the gov races in today's Wash ComPost, and they list RI as a state that the Pubbies are competitive in. Hmmm.

RI is another state where the Dems nominated the WRONG candidate. Myrthie has lost twice before (against Almond), though can be described as a giant-killer in the Dem primaries (dominated by Brown University radical leftists of Myrthie's ilk) as she took out both incumbent Gov. Sundlun in '94 and the expected-to-be-nominated Sheldon Whitehouse in this one. A lot of Dem leaders were VERY angry to see him go down. I think Carcieri will win this one by a narrow margin (and that, BTW, will be the first time since 1910 that the GOP has retained the Governorship for a 12-year block in RI).
