Oct 18, 2002 3:30 pm US/Central (AP)-(Rochester, MN)- President Bush took the stage before a roaring crowd of about five-thousand people today in Rochester. It took 30 seconds for the applause to die down enough for him to announce that he came to town to support the Republican ticket.

He rattled off the names of all the G-O-P candidates for statewide office as U-S Senate candidate Norm Coleman and gubernatorial candidate Tim Pawlenty stood at his sides. Bush told the crowd that Pawlenty had proved that he knew how to get the job done. Then he said he needed Coleman in the U-S Senate. The President urged supporters to man the phones, go to coffee shops and to their places of worship to urge others to vote on November fifth. Bush says he loves the values in this part of the nation: faith, family and love of country.

One question, why does the President have to come to Minnesota and tell us Minnesotans how to vote. I don't intend to criticize anyone but why can't they let us make decisions ourselves.

Bush is just trying to rally the base and get everyone fired up to vote out WellStoned on Nov. 5th. And, I hear the President will be coming to the Twin Cities one more time before the 5th! Hope to go see him!

I was at the Rochester rally and the place was a frenzy. GWB coming back to Minnesota two more times before election day for Coleman.

To answer another poster's question, a presidential visit dominates the local media for about 48-72 hours and gives a huge boost to the GOP ticket. It also reinforces the paid advertising message on tv and radio.

Lucky you!I can imgaine the place was a frenzy! I didn't make it to Rochester, but I did go to the rally at the Target Center back in July. My friend and I got there 3 hours early, and the place was already packed with people waiting to get in! Hopefully we'll be saying Buh Bye to little Pauly come Nov. 5th!

The campaign is being fought over abortion, guns and taxes---in other words we're winning.

If President Bush would come here, as a gracious gesture to the grassroots West Virginians who gave him the victory in 2000, we could put Rockefeller away for good.
