"The journey of the explorer from Genoa is one of the great stories of daring and discovery," President Bush said in a Columbus Day observance.

"Every aspect of our culture, whether it be art or music, to law and politics, owes something to the influence of Italian Americans," Mr. Bush said.

On cspan2,I saw the author of a new book that the left will not like. Thomas Bowden wrote "The Enemies of Columbus"

Bowden explains: how all people began as savages, the genocide the Indians perpetrated prior to Columbus, explains why they didn't "own the land", tells how the Indians would have seen the new arrivals as another tribe; and much more.

Hooray for Christopher Columbus! He took a risk and started a trend that allowed America to become the most civilized and advanced country in the world.

Odd that the same group that demands sovereignty for the Indians does not want America's sovereignty from the UN.

This is great. I can't believe that one of the political parties actually said something nice about Italian-Americans. Too bad my immigrant grandfather didn't live to hear this, he was here for 70 years waiting for one of the parties to reach out to him and fellow Italians.

And the good news for me is that it was a fellow Republican (G.W. Bush) who made this statement...that brings an even bigger smyle to my face.
