Germans Lap Up Claim That US Plotted Sept 11

Germans lap up claim that US plotted Sept 11

By Kate Connolly in Bonn
(Filed: 17/10/2003)

A former cabinet minister is drawing huge crowds and stoking the fires of anti-Americanism in Germany with a book arguing that the US government mounted the Sept 11 attacks as part of a plot to win global domination.

Andreas von Bülow has gone even further than Michael Meacher, Britain's former environment minister, who claims the US knowingly failed to prevent the attacks.

Von Bülow, 66, believes that Sept 11 was staged to justify the subsequent wars on Afghanistan and Iraq.

"If what I say is right, the whole US government should end up behind bars," he says.

The German government has made no official response to the book, although ministers have tried to distance themselves from his views.

But von Bülow's ideas are very popular and polls show a fifth of Germans believe Washington ordered the attacks.

The CIA and September 11, written mainly from internet research, is a besteller, with sales of more than 100,000.

It's a regular hatred of secular socialists. They consider themselves enlightened and despise our religious "backwardness." That feeling would've never developed into hatred had we not been stronger than they are: if they are in step with the future, it is they who should be stronger. The same thing happened in the Soviet Russia.

If you think about it, it is essentially the same psycholigical fabric as that behind the hatred of Islam towards us: they are convinced that we are morally inferior, with our decadent movies and fashions --- it is they, therefore, who must be ahead. Instead they are weak to the point of impotence. This combination, it seems to me, always leads to hatred.

Once a person succums to hatred, selective retention and processing of information begins, which is why we see otherwise educated and intelligent people speak and write total nonsense when it comes to the object of hatred. The above-mentioned former ministers are reasonably smart, I am sure. Having retained only the facts that support their theories, they are genuinely convinced that they are correct in their assessment of America. And now they write books to convince others. The same phenomenon as in the Arab world, where Oxford-educated elite truly believe that Jews run America and the rest of the world.

What is wrong with these people?

Germans have historically responded well to lies.

I suspect the dims hoped for something to happenbefore the 2000 election, to keep them in. It came too late. They gambled and lost. And could give a damn less about the country, or the libs that did on 9/11.

What's wrong with bashing Germany? You make it sound like they don't deserve it.

Where have you been living in Germany?

I lived in two different German cities for a total of over two years and just returned to the US last month. I can't begin to tell you how often I heard ordinary Germans of all ages, from all economic classes and educational levels, continuously spouting this crackpot theory ever since the end of about a month-long "grace" period following the September 11th terrorist attacks. Even Christian Democrat business executives would spout this garbage to me!

And Germans love to refer to the highly-revered Michael Moore as an expert source in such discussions.

In fact, I am amazed that the figure cited in the posted article is not higher than 20 percent.

Well, I lived in Kitzingen, Erlangen, Schweinfurt, Willingen. For a total of eight years. Speak fluent German. Can talk politics with the natives. Married a German lady. Have property there. Have many German friends and family.

I trust my own judgement thanks. You're entitled to your opinion though. I'm sure you feel like you have known enough Germans intimately to judge them all though.

Dresden did not happen either.

It was concocted to draw funds into their country after their humiliating defeat.

Sorry, but that was my experience and I do not and did not go out of my way to seek negative confrontations with Germans or anyone else, for that matter.

You don't have to say sorry. If that's what you think, that's what you think. I see it differently and I trust my own judgement.

"What is wrong with these people?"

I've decided that they just have to have something/someone to hate.

Must blame something for their own pitiful lives and we've become an all to easy target.

Sad!

Believing Michael Moore is a complete demonstration of anyone's stupidity. He must take stupid pills every AM upon waking. His sister was a member of the DA's staff here in Nevada County and there was some sort of dust-up. I think she got fired, and Michael Moore came to town like Sir Lancealot to the rescue. The local Birkenstock and Brie crowd lapped him up. I don't think she got her job back, but he stirred them up big time.

Withdraw ALL USA troops, dependents, teachers, EVERYTHING out of Germany. Then set the timer on your clock to see how long it takes for their economy to implode. I give it less than 6 months if we have a strong and complete rapid withdrawal.

Haven´t been awake in US history?
The Hessians were defeated by Washington on Christmas morning, and it was a Prussian General who fought with the young American nation (Gen. von Steuben).
