Yeah, the book was basically a hit piece on the tobacco companies. Expect the film to be a 90-some-odd minute gun control commercial.

John Grisham is a comitted Leftist. He left the practice of law to write full-time, and there seems to be some rule in H'wood that makes it mandatory to make his books into movies.

Expect it to recieve critical praise, however, just like any Left-leaning film would.

I noticed this on your link too ...

Dustin Hoffman is also in this film:

Quote:  "For me as an American, the most painful aspect of this is that I believe that administration has taken the events of 9/11 and has manipulated the grief of the country and I think that's reprehensible."-Dustin Hoffman

I would never have known from the ads on TV, but the WSJ tells me that this movie is about evil Gun Manufacturers trying to subvert our judicial system. Fortunately, Liberal defense attorney Dustin Hoffman may be able to save the day and advance the cause of Gun Control.

That's a much better reason for not giving them your money than one (or more) of the actors being a political doofus.

I have seen a few previews of this movie so far. It seemed like another over hyped hollywood film to me. So far every preview I have seen has not mentioned what this film was about, other than a guy losing "his jury". I think it is intentional on their part to not mention guns. I wouldn't expect to see any previews with guns being mentioned on tv till after the movie is out. At least not in any red states. They could have change the gun part of the movie to anything and it still wouldn't interest me.

don't forget sean penn and tim robbins.

Is Kevin Bacon "normal" or is he .. with them?

Does Clint use a whip when he works with these folks? What a casting of characters.

His movies are great, his casting folks need to be FiRed, imo.

Thanks for the post.

I'm a woman, see? And if I were in any movie with John Cusak I'd have a clause in my contract to the effect:
"John Cusak does not kiss me EVER." He is absolutely a revolting screen 'kisser'. GAG.

I saw the preview for this movie, and my comment, before I knew about the gun control message, was that it looked totally uninteresting, and that it was too bad, because I usually like Gene Hackman movies. It looks like a dud, even subtracting the PC message. Knowing what I know now, though, I won't even rent it on DVD.

Other than starring
Rachel Weisz, there's nothing here
I'd think about twice.

1) It's just a lot easier to assume everyone in Hollywood is a homosexual ultra-leftist DNC tool until they prove themselves otherwise. That will certainly save us all a lot of needless posting.

2) My theory is that the greatness of a movie is generally in inverse proportion to the amount of television advertising it receives. The truly great movies don't need a bombardment of fifteen-second spots to drum up an audience. My theory has rarely proved me wrong.

I'm guessing the sequels (if anybody pays money to see this wretch) will be about big, evil oil companies and big, evil HMOs.

Or baseball teams with a high payroll. Or evil white, male, racist, drug-abusing sportscasters. Or groping Republican gubernatorial candidates. Or election-stealing Republican Presidential candidates.

Heaven forbid a movie is ever made that portrays minorities or liberals as the bad guys. Any that do usually have another minority or liberal as the good guy, or have a white male as the bad guy's partner.

Is there a list of movies with neutral politics, or a pro-conservative slant? I don't have a problem seeing certain movies with well-known liberal activists as long as the movie is not trying to shove liberalism down my throat. For example, The Shawshank Redemption is a wonderful movie, despite Tim Robbins. (Yeah, it portrays convicts too sympathetically, but overall it has some great themes about hope and endurance). Contrast that with the movie Arlington Road, in which Tim Robbins plays a wacko right-wing nut job who frames a decent man for a terrorist attack. I made the mistake of renting that one. It would have been a decent thriller if it didn't have the 'approved by Michael Moore' feel about it.

I believe that administration has taken the events of 9/11 and has manipulated the grief of the country and I think that's reprehensible

If, after the horror of 911, our country was so amoral and spoiled that it needed its grief manipulated, then there's no point in trying, for the country is truly not worth saving.

In other words, if the country didn't 'get it' after 911, it never will. Go to hell, Dustin. Or France. Same thing.

This movie will probably go on to win multiple Academy Awards, especially if it bombs at the box office. How else can they get their message across if they can't the first time around? The Oscar hype will breathe new life into the movie, same thing for Mystic River.

The truly great movies don't need a bombardment of fifteen-second spots to drum up an audience.

One of the best movies I've seen in the past ten years is called "The Straight Story". It sounds kind of lame to sum it up as the story of an old guy (Richard Farnsworth) who drives several hundred miles on his riding mower over several weeks, to visit his dying brother. But it's stunning and moving in its simplicity. It's one of those movies where the slow pacing actually enhances the experience. Its themes are much like those in the song 'Hurt', recently covered by Johnny Cash. Forgiveness, redemption, and looking back on the sum total of one's life with unblinking eye. I loved it.
