Prevent Florida State Senator James King From Blocking Terr's Law
October 20, 2003

Florida Governor Jeb Bush is finally pursuing a course to save the life of Terri Schiavo. Governor Bush is calling a special session of the Florida legislatureon Monday to pass legislation that he worked on with Florida Speaker of the House Johnnie Byrd. ``Terri's Bill'' would immediately suspend all dehydration and starvation deaths in the state.
LifeNews.com, however is reporting that one man is the greatest obstacle to this happening, Florida Senate President Jim King, the man who controls the state Senate's agenda.
It's obviously important that we contact all state representatives, Senators, and other parties, but it is absolutely critical we put the pressure on Senator King!
Senator James E. "Jim" King, Jr.is the state Senator from Florida's district 8, which covers parts of Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns, and Volusia counties. Especially if you live in his district, please call him and tell him that he needs to listen to Governor Bush and Speaker Byrd and put this on the agenda tomorrow. Tell him you think this bill needs to be passed ASAP. And call any relatives or friends you have who live in that district to call (or email) him. Right now, he may be the one person with the most power to stop this bill. Let's let him know it needs to get passed. He needs some serious Freeping!
You can read more about this on these threads:

I'd read that she is/was able to eat on her own and smiles when she sees loved ones' photos. She was also reportedly able to communicate with eye movement. Like I said before, she's welcome here. My mom and I won't starve her. Good grief.

I'd sure like to know more about this law. Doctors tried to force us to allow a feeding tube for my 92 year old father-in-law after he had had repeated strokes and was unresponsive. Hydration, I agree with. Forced feeding for ALL patients, no matter what is specified in their living wills, is another matter.
If the person doesn't have a living will, as in Terri's case, then I'm all for it, but for the elderly of Florida who have specifically gone to the trouble of having a lawyer draw up legal papers that state they do not want artificial means used to sustain their lives, it's another matter.
I heard Everett Koop once say about the Karen Ann Quinlan case, that we should be very careful to start what we cannot stop.

but for the elderly of Florida who have specifically gone to the trouble of having a lawyer draw up legal papers that state they do not want artificial means used to sustain their lives, it's another matter I would even question the propriety of some of those papers. Did they draw them up while hale and hearty, or while sick and under family/neighbor/someone-to-gain pressure to "get on"? I have an elderly aunt in obvious dementia in a situation like this. Manipulated by her neighbors while family was unaware, and neighbors now have her power of attorney. As mad as a hatter and as foggy as a chilly Boston night, yet somehow the doctors and social workers say she's "competent" (my hiney!)

Thanks, nick. I used the
http://12dollars.net/terri/ link and sent out my own passionately written email to every one of the Florida legislators with the click of a button. I know it works, because within minutes I started getting autobot return emails from their individual email addresses saying "Thank you for writing." The "Terri's Bill" presentation is to be shortly after lunch, so
time is of the essence!

The Terri Jello Brigade
Will Continue To March Forward
Until Terri Receives Therapy For Oral Feeding.Question of the day: Why oh why wouldn't the government allow Terri to receive communion yesterday?
Answer: It would prove she can swallow!!!!! They'd have to stop the murder by decree, and declare the death of the greatest growth industries ( spell that s-c-a-m ) by the two evil sisters - religion and government!!!
Go To:
JOIN THE TERRI JELLO BRIGADE!!! -- DAY FIVE
Could you do without food and water for five days?
DAY 5
THE STATE OF FLORIDA, U.S.A.
IS EXECUTING TERRI SCHINDLER-SHIAVRO
BY STARVATION

(See http://terrisfight.org )
At 2 P.M. on October 15, the State of Florida surgically removed the feeding tube from a conscious and otherwise alert human being. Her name is Terri Schiavo. Her unfaithful husband, acting as her legal 'guardian' demanded and received a court directive to end Terri's life through the intentional deprivation of food and water - staving her to death.
The entire establishment structure in Florida from the governor to the local sheriff, from newspapers and television to organized religion, have actively and passively supported this barbaric torture to end the life of a woman whose only 'fault' is she can not speak in her own behalf.
"....In Florida, these matters are entrusted to the system that our elected officials established to protect incapacitated adults....We must respect that system" -- Jeb Bush, Governor
A Florida sanctioned murder by starvation of a woman who has committed no crime has been ongoing for five days!!!
Could you do without food and water for five days?
Join the Terri Jello Brigade Today!!!
Where's the Pope?
Terri is a Roman Catholic, and the pope receives world-wide attention when he stands in defense of murdering criminals. Terri is not a murdering criminal. Terri has committed no crime. Terri is a Roman Catholic.
WHAT IS THE REASON FOR YOUR SILENCE FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS POPE JOHN PAUL II?
The State of Florida denied Terri Holy Communion yesterday, Sunday, as she watched the world from her deathbed!!!
SPEAK UP JOHN PAUL - THIS IS YOUR DUTY!!!
YOUR DUTY!!!!
YOUR SILENCE IS ENDORSING THE BARBARIC EXECUTION BY THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT OF AN INNOCENT ROMAN CATHOLIC WOMAN CONVICTED OF NO CRIME?
WOULD YOU BE SILENT IF THE PERSON WAS MOTHER TERESA?
IS TERRI'S SOUL LESS EQUAL TO THAT OF MOTHER TERESA IN GOD'S EYES?
FOR FIVE YEARS YOU HAVE DENIED THE TRUTH OF TERRI SCHIAVO'S TORTURE BY THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. YOUR FAILURE TO ACT HAS THE POTENTIAL OF STAINING THE LEGACY YOU HAVE CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTED AT GREAT EXPENSE TO ALL AROUND YOU.
WHAT IS THE REAL REASON FOR YOUR FIVE YEARS OF SILENCE POPE JOHN PAUL II?
THE LITMUS TEST
"The litmus test is whether or not a person can bring a spoon to their mouth." -- Attorney George Felos, August 2001, commenting on the standard that should apply in deciding to terminate life in nursing homes, rehab and daycare centers in America.
New Jersey lawyer Christopher A. Ferrara argues that Michael Schiavo has violated Terri's rights under federal laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, by withholding medical treatment and refusing to allow her to fed by mouth.
"(The Schindlers) are about to lose their daughter because no one wants to put a teaspoon of Jello to her mouth," Ferrara said. "It's insane."
Do something that will really tick 'em off!!! Let your envelope be one of many that will fill their offices with the dreaded packages of jello they dare not feed Terri. My family sent already sent three envelopes to these arrogant pretenders.
Join the Terri Schindler-Shiavro Jello Brigade ..... by going to the store.
Buying a 99cent box of Jello.
Address it to :
No More Wiggle Room - Jeb Bush
Governor, State of Florida
400 S. Monroe Street
The Capitol
Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0001
Save Terri Schindler-Shiavro's Life Today!!!
So what's our REAL message???
Change the way your running things!!! We're watching you, and we don't like the way you're doing business in our name!!!
Related costs: Jello .99; Envelope 1.19, stamps 1.29
What Next? After you deposit your mailing to Governor Bush, please allow time to offer Him your prayers for Terri, and be certain to pass this entire email on to everyone you know, asking them to join with us - urging they bring this to the attention of their friends.
Should Terri succumb to the governments extreme termination of her life, continue to urge your friends to mail the jello to the governor. It will serve to underline our anger over government's murder of the innocent because they simply have no further value to the state.
Thank you for doing what you could to help an American Citizen who needed you!!!

Geez Louise. Another conflict of interest?
To: TigersEye
According to becki-snow.blogspot.com, George J. Felos was listed as a member of the Board of Directors for the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. If I remember correctly, Felos was on the Board at the time Terri was moved into the hospice and resigned shortly thereafter.
Now you have James King saying he won't allow the Bill to be presented? Conflict of interest ~ highly suspect ~ there's much to be learned here, I'm sure.

I think a relevant movie quote at this particular moment for all fellow Freepers is...
"Bye bye boys! Have fun storming the castle!"
And to Senator James King?
"You don't tug on Superman's cape... you don't spit into the wind... you don't pull the mask off the Lone long Ranger and you don't mess around with Terri!"
