Whoever that lady is, she just said "the situation is grim" and that they've put out emergency aid requests for other available FD's to come and help

I hope that's all it is. (can't believe I'm saying that, though) How awful this is.

"Why does it look like homes are burning but no brush is between them?"
The problem is the extremely high velocity of the winds. The wind carries embers from the fire into the flatlands and to the homes. If the owners are not home their house is vulnerable...

Unbelievably, it appears that many of the roofs are (were) made of easily ignited wood shake shingles.I moved away from that area very recently. Shake roofs have not been legal for at least 20 years. People do use roof materials that look like shake, but are much less flammable. After a certain point, the house is going to burn, no matter what it's roofed with.

There is now a fire in Lake Arrowhead. They had to pull people off the fire down the mountain to go fight that.
In other nearby mountain communities, they are telling residents they may have to shut off electrical power for protection of the electrical system - don't understand that one exactly, but you heard it here.

Many of the roads (including freeways) are closed. Looked like nighttime earlier today. Winds are blowing 50 mph at times--carrying burning timbers great distances Oh ok .. that makes sense
Thanks for the info
I've watching this news on and off .. sounds really bad

There is now a fire in Lake Arrowhead. They had to pull people off the fire down the mountain to go fight that. Is that a third fire .. or a spread from the other fires?
