"Supreme Court's Calder v. Bull decision indicates there's nothing in the U.S. Constitution that prohibits a state legislature from ordering a new trial in a civil case. The Florida legislature could order a new trial in this case under a new legal regime for this sort of case that it passes at the same time, prospectively (for the future)."

That could be an approach we might use in addressing the legislators. Should we renew our letter writing and calling efforts asking them to consider this action?

I'm not sure the time is right for that yet. (For one thing, I'd like to have my ideas subjected to criticism and discussion first. Just in case I might be wrong.)
