WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Republican National Committee Friday asked CBS to allow a team of historians and friends of former President Ronald Reagan and his wife to review a miniseries about the couple before it airs.

Republicans have expressed concern that the miniseries, titled "The Reagans," may inaccurately portray the couple.

Gillespie added that print and TV ads are being prepared to rebut the miniseries and that Republicans may try to buy time to run the ads during the miniseries.

I hope this doesn't mean that we'll have to boycott the RNC.

Nice scam by CBS. Tell outrageous lies about someone to force others to buy time to release the truth.

I was a Reagan fan (albeit a young one) since he was elected. He was the first president I truly listened to (not hard with that dumbass Carter in office before). Now I am slowly reading his letters.

It brings me anguish that these BASTARDS would slander this man. He is, for me, the paradigm of a President. Oddly enough, if I am at a gathering and someone wants to debate whether Bush is a good president, I enjoy the debate - when someone tries that with Reagan, I get rabid. He was, for lack of a better word, untouchable. I look forward to the day when all of these "news" agencies and lying networks are bankrupted and replaced.

The incredible thing is that Hallmark seems determined to sponsor this abomination. Perhaps men can forget their wedding anniversary, but no Republican is going to forget or forgive this insult to a beloved former President.

there are enough copies of the script floating around. is it on kazaa/morpheus yet?

There is no reason to watch this atrocity. Even edited, they simply did not shoot enough sceenes to add the omitted parts.

CBS should no longer exist in november.

CBS blackout for sweeps month.

The hallmark production company produced some fairly leftist fairytale manure. Ted danson's guliver's travels come to mind.

Jack and the beanstak, the real PC version also was part of theirs.

No halmark products for their holiday season.

(BTW: If you love you mom, never use a halmark card. Its the new motto.)

The RNC should just blast the miniseries in a press release rather than wasting their time and money.

This RNC people are probably part of the Trent Lott appeasment wing.

Hit CBS hard for their sweeps. Block CBS off your tv (V-Chip or tuner settings) the will reduce the neilson tabulation of digital cable, tivo, and digital satelite data. Halmark is easy, they have more than enough competition.

This is an age in which Bowling for Columbine got an Oscar for "Best Documentary", an act which redefined documentaries as dramatic fiction while simultaneously demoting the Oscar below the Grammy in artistic significance.

Based on what I have read and heard, I'm guessing that this miniseries is angling for the Emmy version of that award.

print and TV ads are being prepared to rebut the miniseries and ... Republicans may try to buy time to run the ads during the miniseries.

If they do this, I hope they'll run clips of Reagan himself in sharp contrast to the ghoulish James Brolin. What a farce...it'll be quite obvious and shallow. I trust that folks will see it for what it is...and isn't.

It will backfire, because it has no substance.

Luckily I have always disliked "cards".

However, the majority of my family, conservative, enjoy them. I would venture a guess that the majority of Hallmark's customers are conservative: they do not sell, as far as I know, racy or "mature" cards. It will be interesting to test my theory - a conservative backlash against Hallmark.

If I am incorrect in my assumtions, PLEASE correct me.

Hallmark cards is on the NRA's blacklist. Between the "Reagans" and the NRA, I would guess that whoever is making marketing decisions at that company is liberal.

It's a shame, but Hallmark is now on my do not ever buy from list.

This is going to turn out to be a big blunder for CBS and Hallmark. In a way, I want them to do it. It will hasten their death.
