Outrageous claim?

I don't think so, and neither do many biblical scholars.

As a matter of fact Jesus having been married is a given to a good number of them.

Why Jesus possibly being married is a threat to some Christians is not easy to understand.

I feel that it made his sacrifice all that much greater, although there are questions about that as well, but I won't go there in this thread.

Have a nice night...

This is far from a new enlightened theory. I read a book 30 years ago called the Jesus Conspiracy, or some such idiocy which embraced this theory and carried it to Mary (there seem to be 3 Marys) having fled to France and producing Jesus's son and the bloodline supposedly still flows in the Rothchilds, or some such rot.

There was Mary the Mother, Mary the Prostitute and the Magdeline. It is the Magdeline targeted as his wife. She seems to have traveled with him, so the idea goes and women did not travel with men they were not married to, and he was a Rabbi, which required him to take a wife. This book also proposed that the wedding where Christ made wine from water was his own to the Magdeline.

I shrugged and discounted the ego required to write such a missive, much less the missive itself. The Knights Templar were mixed in and supposedly the guardians of the secret in France. An entertaining read, but fiction no less.

Good stuff - thanks!

I also heard (but have never read it) that Mary, the mother of Jesus was swept away to England via the trade ships out of the Middle East so as to protect her from Roman (and Jewish) persecution.

So many, many lies.

Matthew 24
4Jesus told them, "Don't let anyone mislead you. 5For many will come in my name, saying, `I am the Messiah.' They will lead many astray. 6And wars will break out near and far, but don't panic. Yes, these things must come, but the end won't follow immediately.

Luke 21
7"Teacher," they asked, "when will all this take place? And will there be any sign ahead of time?"
8He replied, "Don't let anyone mislead you. For many will come in my name, claiming to be the Messiah[1] and saying, `The time has come!' But don't believe them. 9And when you hear of wars and insurrections, don't panic. Yes, these things must come, but the end won't follow immediately."

Footnotes

  1. 21:8 Greek name, saying, `I am.'

As a matter of fact Jesus having been married is a given to a good number of them.

And a good number of them don't believe that Jesus was God or that there is a God at all. The point is that they never have any evidence to back up this claim. If they have any then trot it on out. Let’s see it.

Why Jesus possibly being married is a threat to some Christians is not easy to understand.

A threat? No. Simply another lie that should be challanged. Goodness knows that there have been a lot of them about Him. But it is a very Greek notion that is not supported by the scriptures or by logic. It would be very odd, for example, for Him to have taken such tender care of His mother's future on the cross and then make no provision for a wife.

Even stranger would be His getting married knowing that His life would be so short and end so violently.

Sleep well.

They're hoping to sneak this in under the CBS Reagan movie.

Jesus had children and married. Jesus who? Gonzalez? Where is the evidence that Jesus married & had children? He is going to be married. That's what the church is for. If he were married to a human he wouldn't be pure for the church.

I fail to see what those prophecies have to do with marriage. Mind you, I don't think He was married, but is rather betrothed to the Church.

"I fail to see what those prophecies have to do with marriage."

What the prophesies say specifically, is that Jesus left no progeny.

Jesus told his disciples "..I have meat to eat that ye know not of." after they saw him talking to the woman at the well. He wasn't interested in taking a woman for a wife.

His "wife" is the church. You are right.
