TWO RIVERS Mohammad Javeed, store manager at the Citgo Express on 2626 Memorial Drive, is a man that many would think would want to arm himself.
Javeeds store has twice been robbed, once at gunpoint. He has looked down the barrel of a gun, but Javeed said he does not believe the solution is allowing people to carry weapons.
I think this thing should be avoided at all costs, Javeed said. If they come to rob, it wont do any good. They have the first attack. You cant even move to push the button (alarm). Better we should make the society safer without using weapons. We need to find a way to train society and kids to avoid the destruction.
He isnt alone in his belief that the Personal Protection Act is not the best solution.
A study conducted Oct. 20-21 of 600 randomly-selected adult Wisconsin residents done by the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families found that 62 percent of those responding oppose concealed carry.
Terry Robinson, who handles sales and installation for Superior Safe and Security, a Green Bay-based security company, said he questions the importance of the PPA, and disputes its passage as the best method of security.
Detectors on glass to remotely notify the authorities if glass has been broken, door contacts to do the same and video cameras are among the expanding number of options for homeowners to keep their homes sealed against intruders, Robinson said.
If a store clerk is threatened with a robbery, the mantra is give them what they want and get them out, he said.
The last thing cops want is a hostage situation, Robinson said. I think there has been too much pulling and not enough thinking. Why do they need to pass the law, people have guns already.
"Oh, the searing kiss of hot lead, how I missed you."
Local lawmakers share viewpoint on weapons bill
They quiz all the helpless and get the expected answer. It's not really that amazing that these folks are just acting to acknowledge and reenforce each others ineptitude and fear. It's their hope that the govm't will act to force everyone to be as defenseless as they are. Misery invites company.
This will be especially true once the robbers realize that all of Javeed's competitiors have firearms ready. Why take the chance when you know someone helpless to rob?
Hey, Mohammad, you moron, you have the choice not to carry. Just get a sign that says "gun free zone" and hang it outside.
Yup. He doesn't want to be alone in his disarmed victim status - he wants the rest of us to suffer his utopian idiocy along with him. Thanks, but no - I'd rather have the option to defend myself if need be.
