Dang, you are right. I forgot that...

We could also have ended the war much quicker by invading N Vnam. Don't think the Red Chicoms will intervene.

I don't know if RLK writes professionally or not, but this is one of the best, and in-depth missives I have read concerning the deep and obscure factors that lead to America's defeat in Viet Nam. I have been troubled for years concerning that ignoble event, in which I participated, and without going into any whining commentary, have lived through many difficulties in both my personal and professional life in the aftermath of that period in my life.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for posting this and if you have personal contact with RLK please extend my sincere gratitude to him.

"... it was said the men fought for each other(hits the nail on the head) is the closest that could be said to thinking and stating the unthinkable. It implied a justifiable loss of faith and respect for the chain of command and the American political leadership. The American men were alone betrayed and abandoned. They fought to survive incompetence and betrayal."

"The lack of emotional and other healing for many Nam vets, and for the nation in general, has been the result of being asked to believe unbelievable lies devised by the architects of the failure and betrayal as the mode of therapy. That is precisely the opposite direction to go for healthy healing, not pathological denial, to occur. Healing will require ending that lie."

Says it all.

Thank you again.

The British and French then developed and implemented their own machine guns rendering German infantry frontal attacks impossible. The result was a stalemate of armies opposite each other in trenches with none able to leave without being mowed down.

Patton may have been a student of military history, but this fellow is not. Both the British and French had machineguns before the advent of the Great War (though not as many per battalion as the Germans). Indeed, the British adopted the Maxim gun in 1884 -- 30 years before the outbreak of WWI.

The movie (We Were Soldiers Once, and Young) which is readily available on VCR and DVD, should be studied after reading this analysis.

Recommed you get the book instead to understand why Moore went into the I Drang. I let my comment on this bs go at that.

Amen to that, under the guise of "free speech", much like we hear from the 9+1 Demodunces today.

...I remember our 1st Cavalry Division Airmobile's just chomping at the bit for its first major contact with invading North Vietnamese Communist Army Regiments from the moment we arrived in a then Free South Vietnam in 1965.

...That opportunity came as our Communist Enemy from the North was attempting to cut a then Free South Vietnam in half at the Central Highlands and making a dash for Saigon in 1965, which is how the Communists did win the war 10 years later after we had left Vietnam behind to its Fate.

...This was all Lt. Col. AN's Plan in 1965, the man Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE faced at Landing Zone X-Ray, and 10 years later as Gen. AN in 1975. The man was no pushover or dummy as an Officer or Planner.

...In October 1965 we knew we were facing an Enemy of at least 6,000 North Vietnamese Army Regulars near the Cambodian Border as it was that many who had just broken off a weeks long engagement surrounding the Plei Me Special Forces Camp that blocked their way to the rest of the Central Highlands.

...We were looking for them, they were looking for us ...to fight.

...In other words our entire 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry was on RECON to prove the effectiveness of the same Air Assault Helicopter Tactics that were later used so effectively in the First Gulf War.

...Sometimes in Battle you takes what you get in order to get what you want in the end..?

...The 1/7th Cavalry prevailed in its 2nd Battle of the Little Big Horn at Landing Zone X-Ray, only to have its poorly led brother 2/7th Cavalry cut to shreads from ambush by 2 North Vietnamese Regiments the next day higher up the Valley floor at Landing Zone Albany.

...One of the ambushed Combatants there was a young Pfc. JACK SMITH, son of then ABC-TV News Anchor HOWARD K. SMITH, who was severly wounded ..survived and is now dying of Pancreatic Cancer 38 years later.

Praise GOD that LOVE is the Only Reality and that GOD is LOVE..?
