Liberals: How They REALLY Feel
BitPig Online ^ | 2003.11.08 | BitPig (B-Chan)

Ever want to know how the American Left really feels? Look no further than DemocraticUnderground.Com [DU]. This online waterin’ hole for liberals, lefties “progressives”, and the occasional outright bloodthirsty Communist is generally pretty dull fare — message after message featuring nothing more radical than sour-grapes grousings about the 2000 election, praises for lefty blowhards like Michael Moore, and the predictable amount of Dean/Clark/Nader electioneering. Like the political philosophy their authors espouse, the messages on DU's forums are a good source of occasional unintentional humor but are otherwise harmless — full of sound and fury, yes, but rarely signifying anything except the accumulated frustrations of the beret-clad Marx-reading postgrad bohos, starchy working-class union guys and rhubarb-munching pagan college girls who frequent the site. Rants at DU are frequent but generally uninspiring: yes, we know that the President is inartuculate; yes, we realize that the rich, good-looking, popular kids that lorded it over us in high school are now running the planet. (The conservative response to both objections: “So what?”) Other than the occasional Two Minutes Hate for W, however, the forum over at DU carries precious little of interest to the casual reader; there just isn't much passion in a plea for higher withholding taxes, I guess. The shade of the late Senator Hubert H. Humphrey (D-Minn.) must be as pleased as Punch to see how tame liberals have become over the years.

Occasionally, however, a DU member will transcend the limitations of the liberal mindset, freak the eff out, and tell the online Universe what he/she truly believes. When this happens, the gang over at freerepublic.com (my favorite conservative politics/culture forum) crowds to the electronic knothole to get a good look at what's going on behind the fence of facile PC that screens the souls of the hardcore Lefties from the view of civilized society.

Such a moment occurred last evening: a member of Democratic Underground — a woman known only as “Starpass” — posted a message of such transcendent ill-will, such rectum-blistering bile, as to defy even the most fevered imaginations of those who watch Lefties make idiots out of themselves online for sport. Within minutes, the post was zinging around the FR message vortex; within a few minutes more, it was on its way to the wider world. This astonishing message, quoted verbatim here, reads:

“I hope the bloodshed continues in Iraq”

I won't be hypocritcal. It is politically correct, particularly in any Dem discussion to hope and pray and feel for our troops and scream "bring them back now". I'm fighting something bigger.

I'm a 58 year old broad and I can tell you that what is going on in our country isn't the usual ebb and flow of politics where one party is in power and then another; where the economy goes through ups and downs.......yawn, yawn--just wait a bit and things will turn out peachy keen. That stupid la-la land is over.

I realize that not every GI Joe was 100peeercent behind Prseeedent Booosh going into this war; but I do know that that is what an overwhelming number of them and their famlies screamed in the face of protesters who were trying to protect these kids. Well, there is more than one way to be "dead" for your country. They are not only not accompishing squat in Iraq, they are doing crap nothing for the safety, defense of the US of A over there directly. But "indirectly" they are doing a lot.

The only way to get rid of this slime bag WASP-Mafia, oil barron ridden cartel of a government, this assault on Americans and anything one could laughingly call "a democracy", relies heavily on what a shit hole Iraq turns into. They [American soldiers in Iraq] need to die so that we can be free. Soldiers usually did that directly--i.e., fight those invading and harming a country. This time they need to die in defense of a lie from a lying adminstration to show these ignorant, dumb Americans that Bush is incompetent. They need to die so that Americans get rid of this deadly scum. It is obscene, Barbie Bush, how other sons (of much nobler blood) have to die to save us from your Rosemary's Baby spawn and his ungodly cohorts.

Okay, wow.

To sum up DemocraticUnderground.Com user “Starpass”: “I hope American soldiers die in large numbers in Iraq so that a Democratic president will be elected in 2008.”

Again, wow.

The post has since been removed from DU's forum, and understandably so; while most DUsers and their comrades on the left are wacky, naiive, ignorant, or all of the above, few of them are out-and-out evil — and I doubt seriously if more than a handful actually want us to lose the war ( = dead GIs ) in order to get rid of President Bush. I mean, liberal is one thing, but liberal and murderous is something else again.

Still, you gotta wonder: how many Lefty-libs really do hate President Bush badly enough to secretly wish for our soldiers’ deaths? I can’t believe it’s very many; deep down, I suspect that even liberals know that no election is worth seeing dead Americans come home in boxes. But then you read something like this message, posted on 6 October on Democrats.org, the Democratic National Committee's official Web site [verbatim]: “It occured to me that all the bump that Bush got late last week from the economic figure went up in flames yesterday with that helicopter” — and, like I said, you wonder.

“That helicopter” was the one shot down in Baghdad last Sunday — the one that crashed, killing 15 American soldiers.

Thanks, Democratic Underground.Com. By posting a message in which a liberal openly celebrates the deaths of American fighting men in combat at the hands of the enemy, you do a greater service to the conservative cause than you imagine.

I think a lot more of them than you acknowledge, including their national leadership in the Democratic party, are hoping to see the U.S. armed forces decimated in Iraq. I believe that the Left is cheering the death of every American hero who makes the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

I used to be generous, like you, then I learned the true character of the Left. It is not as ugly as you might imagine; it is ugly beyond imagination.

A trip to DU land every once in a while is a good reminder of the desperation over there. I have found very little good discussion going on. Much RANTING, filthy language, etc. And talk about 'tin hats'...just try reading through some of their stuff tonight and I promise you there will be some kind of conspiracy that has caused their latest failure. Last night I read that the reason CA,KY and MS lost the dem governorships was that their voters were somehow deleted from the voter rolls during Y2K by the Republicans....I am not making that up!!!!! Go on over tonight and see for yourself...conspiracy dejour...Just make sure you understand that the language is x-rated. Thank you administrators for keeping this a fairly clean sight!

I believe DU has pulled this, but not right away...saw mention of it in another thread.

It got pulled, but only after it showed up today both on Andrew Sullivan's blog and on the Wall Street Journal's Best of the Web. To be fair to DU, one of their moderators locked the thread yesterday so it couldn't receive any more replies (complaining the original post violated some DU rule against inflammatory thread titles or somesuch), but it should have been nuked as soon as a moderator saw it. You have to wonder why it was allowed to remain viewable until it drew unwanted negative attention to them.

Terrible but true.

However, in my experience, most are very, very uncomfortable with that feeling and will not admit to it when directly confronted.

They think our policies are terrible, and our society terrible - that we ARE the great Satan. But wishing American soldiers dead is a terrible, terrible thing and they know it.

"I have found very little good discussion going on. Much RANTING, filthy language, etc. And talk about 'tin hats'..."

...I went to their site a week or so ago, hoping to find what they were thinking as far as political strategy to win in '04 and to see discussions on their 9 or 10 candidates.

...I checked for a few minutes every day just to see if even one person would post a serious message that might inspire serious discussion about issues...It didn't happen. It's just as you described it, ranting and filthy language doesn't offend me but they made no sense whatsoever and were juvenile, sophomoric and just plain stupid. I am 18 years old and I don't know anybody my age who exhibits that much immaturity.

...I have seen plenty of rants at F.R. and have even participated in a few but they are discussions aimed at each other and are about issues and generally are not poison filled diatribes aired just to stroke the posters ego.
...I also got the feeling that some of the ranters were just itching to say even more about President Bush but knew better than to step over the line and advocate what they were really thinking, either that or the moderators were smart enough to censor those sentiments.

...If those people are representative of the Democratic party, it's obvious to me why their party is in a nose dive.

...I believe a two party system is healthy for our country but the Democratic party as I see it, is not one of them.

The DUer who wishes our troops die in Iraq obviously doesn't have family there. What I'd like to know, though I probably never will, is what other DUers had to say about this...especially those with family there.

And they denied Ann Coulter's assertion that they are treasonous.

On another one of their threads it began:

How can we stop the religious right? LeviathanCrumbling Nov-04-03 12:41 AM #0

we could kill Christ again GAspnes Nov-04-03 12:42 AM #1

I won't bother with the link, but the entire thread was sickening and disgusting.

Dr. LeRoy Carhart speaks to reporters in his Bellevue, Neb., office, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003. A federal judge expressed serious reservations Wednesday with a federal ban on certain late-term abortions that President Bush (news - web sites) signed into law later in the day. U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf voiced his concerns at the start of a hearing at which abortion supporters asked him to block implementation of the law. At what was expected to be a three-hour hearing Wednesday, lawyers on both sides of the issue were to argue their cases for a lawsuit filed on behalf of Dr. LeRoy Carhart of Bellevue and three other physicians who perform abortions. ...That's funny. It's another thing I like abour F.R., I can see some humor and wit.

...I tried to come up with a witty word play on your screen name wizardoz but came up blank. I thought of one for my own name though, that I'll not mention here, (one for two ain't bad, I guess that makes me a half wit)

Today they had a thread entitled "Will you support the troops when they kill their officers?"

And many agreed that they would. The thread was pulled but it had many dozens of replies by their long time members. The anti-military sentiment there was just staggering.

I read the whole thread before it was pulled, but after it was locked.

It -does- have to be said that there were several DU'ers who argued, and passionately, against what Starpass said.

But it also has to be said that there were quite a few apologetics for Starpass... the very first response being "I don't agree with the final conclusion but I understand the arguments". Many others along those lines. "Don't be so mean to her, she's on our side, and I get where she's coming from."

And it also has to be said that there was more than just a couple of posters who openly, actively, passionately agreed with everything she said and if they could go another step forward, they would have.

Don't think she was alone on that site. No chance. There's a lot of 'em there. The DU'ers who believe crap like that are simply insane. The DU'ers that CALL these people on that insanity do deserve credit. The apologists for the insane ones ("I don't agree, but don't be so mean to her") are little different from Nazi sympathizers or Communist apologizers, who didn't do the acts themselves but aid them by trivializing their treason.

I believe a journalist for Newsweek said something slightly more eloquently, but essentially the same, a few months ago.

He admitted that he felt guilty, but he really wanted the war in Iraq to go very badly (dead American soldiers) just so he could see Bush lose the next election.

The whole "Yeah! Death!" mindset helps explain why Wellstoneapalooza was such a happy rocking party. It also explains why the Democrats were trounced in the subsequent election.
