Rockefeller Must Resign!
Fox News ^ | November 6, 2003 | Judith Anne

Posted on 11/06/2003 6:50:10 AM PST by Judith Anne

Okay, this is a vanity--my first and only.

That said, I want Rockefeller to resign, and I want to see Freeper opinions on this. I think the memo he claimed a staffer wrote is at LEAST a first cousin to treason, as Zell Miller said, and I am furious that the story isn't getting more traction.

This isn't just another example of business as usual in DC, this is a case of Democrats using intelligence vital to our war effort in Iraq as a tool to win an election against President Bush next year, no matter the cost in human lives!

The author of the memo should resign. Rockefeller, if he DIDN't write it, should disavow it, and SO SHOULD EVERY OTHER DEMOCRAT ON THE COMMITTEE, publicly!

We can't let the media carry the water on this one--they won't! We can't let the Senate carry the water on this one--they won't!

We the people have to insist that there is NO place for this kind of partisanship in this committee at this time--and Rockefeller must resign.

Let "Senator" Rockefeller know what you think of his memo:

senator@rockefeller.senate.gov

Demand his resignation!

Um...

Well, I realize Coulterism has made it cool to proclaim absolutely everything disagreeable "Treason" this isn't treason and proclaiming it is is basically a silly, counterproductive waste of time and the political equivalent of a masturbatory fantasy. And counterproductive in the long term, too; basically makes you look like a loon in public opinion and the media.

(I'm expecting to be viciously flamed for simply making that statement, of course. Of course, people will try to twist my saying it isn't treason into an endorsement of the memo.)

You clearly haven't done the slightest research into the history of American treason prosecution precedent.

Fewer than 30 Americans have ever been convicted of treason, and none have since World War II. Even the Rosenbergs weren't prosecuted for treason.

If Rockefeller was passing names of any undercover agents we have in the AQ organization to AQ, THAT would be treason, and that's basically what is meant by the law. Even then it would be a surprisingly difficult prosection and he'd probably be convicted of something other than Treason. The Consititution VERY deliberately made treason VERY difficult to prosecute, and the framers were very open about fear of treason laws being abused.

I mean, it really isn't that much of an extreme interpretation of the law as posted to declare that ANYONE opposing any US military action is a traitor; after all, if we bomb or invade somewhere, and you come out and oppose that action (Kosovo, perhaps) technically that's an "aid and comfort" to the enemy, if you have an all-encompassing definition of treason, as that opposition makes it more likely that public opinion in the US will force a stop to that action.

And I think people are getting carried away with how effective this scandal will be.

As with most political scandals, 99.99% of the people outraged now are people who weren't going to vote Democrat anyway. It's very, very, very hard to get a scandal to CHANGE votes.

It would help if the whole issue were simpler; I mean, to a typical Democratic voter, the memo alone is probably the longest thing they'll read in a given month. And to see what is wrong with it requires a certain degree of critical thinking/reading-between-the-lines ability.

It's not Rockefeller being photographed kissing an AQ member on the cheek or being found in bed with a Girl Scout or something.

It seems to me that this is NO STORY to the LEFTIST of this world, ie ( NBC,CBS, ABC, CNN, TIME on and on.

I think this is HUGE but Nacny and gansters are out sitting on their hands hoping is will just stay quiet with the help of the BIASED media.

I am sick to death of the double standards. We need RUSH back Big TIME.

My, you've raised the bar quite a bit. I disagree. I think that any so-called senator who has access to very sensitive intelligence and who PLANS TO USE IT FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES is certainly guilty of more than poor judgement.

At the very least, Rockefeller MUST resign.

Rush is busy right now. It's up to us.

Email Rockefeller and tell him what you think, why don't you?

I'm just posting the law. I'll leave it up to the lawyers to decide if it applies. But the way it reads to me it is absolutely applicable. Your opinion is duely noted.

He should resign from the intelligence committee. How many other documents have found their way out of his office? How can he be trusted with protecting the potential intelligence secrets in his own office? It should be up to his constituents if he stays to represent them, but his committee membership should be taken. He represents us all on that committee!

Don't take this as a bash on WV. But why is it that a state that gets far more tax money back than it puts in the pot in the first place have to allow its residents to eat roadkill?

He has proposed using information he gets while serving on the Senate Intel Committee for political advantage in 2004, no matter the safety of our troops or the progress of the war effort.

That makes him not worthy of ANY office in this country!

How do I make a nomination for the quote of the day?

I am in agreement. However, I think if we concentrated on getting him removed from the committee, the chance of success would be much greater. He represents all of us on that bi-partisan committee and he clearly violated all of America's trust. As a Senator, he represents his constituents and violated their trust. He should be dealt with accordingly by them.

I am not supporting him, I am just being realistic.

I never did think you supported him. Thanks for your help on this thread. ;-D

I'm going for the whole thing, though. I'm angry, and half-measures might pacify me eventually, but I'm after his resignation, the bleeping seditionist!

"How deep does your effort to aid the enemy go? Do you encourage them quietly or offer active support? Money? Passports? Shared intelligence? Who in the democrat party directs the effort?"

Good questions #53!!!!

Thank you! Every email will help! Some low level staffer--probably the one who "wrote the memo" will no doubt have to read them...
