A word to Dixie: Drop dead, please

There's a reason why nobody ever lost money on a book about the War of Northern Aggression. A hundred and thirty-eight years later, the remembrance of those four violent and heroic years still, as Satchell Paige might put it, "angries up the blood." It's the story that never grows cold, old, or fully told.

Thanks for posting this, John. It's a hoot! I've been waiting for some responses ... but think I'm the only one up here in Michigan.

Democrats can't win the presidency without the South. They never have.

Suck-up time! Wonder what their focus groups have discovered the "rednecks" will buy hook, line and sinker?????

And so it went, for two endless hours in which only Dick Gephardt looked good. He skipped this gong show.

He can't escape that easy. Read on!

GEPHARDT: "The Confederate flag is a hurtful, divisive symbol and in my view, has no place flying anywhere in any state in this country."
(AP, , January 11, 2003)

GEPHARDT: "I want to be crystal clear to the people of South Carolina where I stand on this issue," Gephardt said, "I think South Carolina should remove the Confederate flag from any official display anywhere in the state."
(The Columbia State, 2003)

GEPHARDT: "I understand the strong feelings South Carolinians on both sides of the issue have and acknowledge the sincere efforts leaders of both political parties have made to reach a compromise," Gephardt's statement said. "But, my own personal feeling is that the Confederate flag no longer has a place flying anytime, anywhere in our great nation."
(The Columbia State, 2003)

Thanks for the Ping John. I have been doing a slow boil ever since this first started. One thing EVERY southerner hates is being looked down on and being treated like they are illiterate.

All of the candidates have just proved Zell Millers book to be accurate. Maybe they should have read it first.

Yours,
DIXIE

These liberal Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot again. I just hope Dean hangs on and gets the nomination so he can become McGovern, Mondale and Dukakis all rolled into one.

The governor's plain talk and the reaction of the other gong-show contestants enlivened what was otherwise the dreariest debate so far, conducted before an audience of know-nothing teenagers (some of whom looked to be on the back side of 30) eager to ask what the Wall Street Journal described as "underpants" questions, as in the famous question put to Bill Clinton about whether he wore boxers or briefs.

This is one of the best descriptions of today's Democrat party I've ever seen.

Did you notice the wonderful applause when the candidates said they smoked pot. I wonder if they would have gotten a standing ovation if they said they shot heroin?

precious little boutique named Vermont

LOL!! great line!

I don't know why people have such a hard time with history. The Confederate flag has historical significance. There's no reason people, or statehouses, shouldn't be allowed to fly them. As a black female, I could care less if people want to fly a Confederate flag or put one in in their pickup trucks.

As usual, liberals point to symbol over substance. What I am concerned about is how I'm treated as a human. You can be a Confederate flag waving biker and treat me with humanity or you can be a latte-drinking liberal who thinks I can't get into college or get a job unless I get bonus points for skin color. Guess which one I'd rather deal with?

Every day, liberals give me more reasons to hate them for the racists that they are.

"Every day, liberals give me more reasons to hate them for the racists that they are."

Congratulations for speaking the truth and congratulations on your (I read you FR home page) transformation! I too, am a recovering liberal, a registered (still a rebel) Independent and a strong supported of GWB and I worked/work hard for his reelection here in Eugene.
