Yes, the Bush Library Foundation suggested Kennedy, but if 41 couldn't have vetoed the idea, then he has a strange set-up there. I don't think it is the least bit unusual. I don't agree with it myself, but I think that is the way things are most often done.

Another thought:
Why would CNS have so blatantly misc-characterized this?
Some things we need to are to check our facts and be honest. Let the Dem's be the liars. IE, the Reagan series, which Viacom is still putting on.

This is absolutely disgusting. The whole Bush family should hang their heads in shame for promoting this. Well, again, I do not think the Bush family had anything to do with choosing Kennedy. Look at the past few messages.
CNS just got things wrong.

The Sr. Bush is giving politics a new meaning - whatever that is, it is disgusting to give TK any award, certainly not one of public service. Kennedy's political machine is bought and paid for by Mass. political hacks - i.e., you get service IF you are part of that machine.
Shame on Bush Sr.

I think it's rich...First, Fat-so is gonna be heckled
to death, then he has to accept this award from those he
hates vehemently. I think it's perfect. It's...well...
compassionate conservatism.

When Kennedy takes the stage the band should play "My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean."

The Bushes have always sat around hoping that the Kennedys would say something nice about them.

I was just thinking about hypocrisy. EMK got a pass on Mary Jo Kopechne. But SD voters even now want Rep. Bill Janklow removed from office for accidentally killing a motorcyclist this summer. And Janklow may yet resign. If not, he won't be renominated or reelected. People in MA never made such a demand on EMK.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid Bush. This is exactly why I did not vote for the elder Bush. This guy is the biggest whimp, next to Trent Lott, in politics. Always trying to be everybodys friend all while screwing the conservative constituents. That is the main problem with the Bushs' is that they want to be loved by everyone. Cant happen. Do whats right and people will follow. Kennedy is a filthy scum bag - the proper thing for Bush to do, even gentlemen thing to do, is to refuse to give him this honor. It would show that he is a man and has principles but nooooooooo he believes that the liberals will love him if he kisses their ass. Idiot!!!!!

From the Houston Chronicle article on the subject:
"Former President Bush has the sole discretion on who receives the award, said Penrod Thornton, deputy director of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation."
If you have anything showing that this is incorrect please post it. You also might check on previous recipients. Otherwise it looks as if CNN got it right for once.

It was CNS, by the way. Not CNN this time.

I just don't assume the newspaper accounts are true.I guess it's much easier to make up your mind without any outside influence.

One thing I am certain of: Barbara Bush didn't have any input in the decision. She has more brass than her husband does.

Maybe 41 is tricking him to the event and then he is going to put his boot in the manatees ass when he gets close enough? I think Momma is the one The Swimmer better be looking out for!
I hope the young conservative men and women at A&M do us proud!
Hope I see 'em on the evening news.
