I can only begin to imagine the liability if one of these guys molests a kid.

I'm sure it's possible. My experience as a parent and teacher is that most teenaged boys are going to stay as far away as possible from someone who gives the slightest appearance of being gay.

Personally I'm aware of several cases of male teachers losing their jobs for inappropriate relationships with female students, but the only case of a male teacher being involved with male students that I'm personally aware of involved an apparently heterosexual teacher who had a wife and children at home.

In the High School where I taught, the only gay teacher stayed in the closet. It was years later when the adult boys came out against him that we learned what went on late at night in the performing arts center with the head of the drama department.

If he were openly gay, the school would likely have put a watchdog on him during these after school hours. As a male teacher, I was taught to never be alone with a female student without the door being locked open. BTW, the city now has a policy that extends to all groups who work with the young. Attendance at child molestation classes is mandatory, and they learn what to look out for and how to conduct themselves. Never any adult child situations without a second adult or child present too.

This is consistent with my experience. At least twice in the schools in my district, male students have claimed to have been molested by teachers. None of them were found to be true.. the students didn't supply any details or their stories contradicted themselves. It appeared they were just trying to get back at a teacher who gave them a failing grade. The teachers' reputations were forever marred, both had loving families.

That's why these cases are so hard.. there is a minute possibility that these students were telling the truth.
