Intel Cmtee Could Finish Iraq Probe Without Dems

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kans., left open the possibility on Sunday that committee Republicans may complete their probe into pre-war Iraq intelligence without Democrats unless minority members disavow a memo outlining plans to politicize the investigation.

"Somebody has to disavow this memo or it's going to be very difficult to put this committee back together again," an angry-sounding Roberts told "Fox News Sunday."

"We are going to finish the inquiry - that's our primary duty right now," he added, saying that the probe was "about 90 percent done."

Asked if he thought it "would be possible to work with the Democrats on the committee to complete the job in a manner you see [as] proper," the Kansas Republican pointedly left the door open to a Republican-only finish to the Iraq probe, telling FNS host Tony Snow, "It's up to [the Democrats]. I hope so. It's up to them."

But Roberts reiterated, "It's going to be very difficult to put the committee back together again without somebody saying, 'We're not going to launch this attack plan - this partisan attack plan,' not only on me, but on the entire committee."

The Intelligence Committee chief excoriated the blatantly political language of the memo, first revealed by radio host Sean Hannity last Tuesday, including phrases like "pull the trigger [on an independent investigation]", "castigate the majority" and "wait till next year," when President Bush runs for reelection.

"Now we have this very partisan attack memo with some members of the Senate actually embracing it, reveling in it," he complained, adding, "They are destroying the non-partisan history of the history of this committee. That really bothers me."

In this case, I think it would be worthwhile for the committee to split into two parts with the power of subpeona for both. The majority could issue their findings and the minority could make a report also. Intelligence is too important to leave dangling in mid air. Clarification definitely needs made as to the accuracy of intelligence before the invasion of Iraq.

Goodness!

Is sanity actually starting to infect some of the Republican committee members? Shock! I'm shocked!

I'm gleeful, doing Snoopy dances, cartwheels and what have you . . . but I'm still shocked.

They might even wander into the realm of being patriotic if they keep this up!

Now if they only had the b*lls to follow through and isolate out the HYPORATS . . . and conclude the business without them . . . wonderful.

The HypoRATS would be furious beyond measure. But maybe some of them would burst a blood vessel . . . or some such in their irateness.

Besides, it might even succeed in keeping Traitor N Chief Shrillery Antoinette de Marx de Fosterizer de Machiavelli further from the precious secrets important to the security of our Republic.

"I think it would be worthwhile for the committee to split into two parts with the power of subpeona for both."

You would actually favor giving the Democrats the subpoena power and allowing them to go on an unrestricted fishing expedition? After they have already indicated their only desire is to act in a partisan manner, irrespective of the evidence?

I can imagine nothing more damaging to the country, in general, and intelligence operations, in particular.

After the Fox show, I flipped back and forth between Meet the Press and ABC but never caught anything about this DemoRat plot against our National Security.

Why am I not surprised.

Republicans could show their displeasure by putting another of their own on it to make it majoritarian (currently it is bi-partisan with duel chairmen and equal Rs and Ds).

The dems are going to whine, complain, accuse, obstruct, divert, protest, blame, and belittle no matter what the facts are, so what do we need them for? It is clear that they have no interest in discovery. I hope that someone is keeping the transcripts/tapes for use not year.

I sent emails to my MS senators demanding they look into the treasonous activities of the Dems. I also sent one to Rockefeller telling him what a piece of work he was for his treasonous activities and how he might as well spit on the graves of those that died so far and those that will die.

I would imagine that if there is no hanky-panky the subpeona power would be useless for the Dems. If there is some cover-up or embarassing events, which I don't anticipate, they would look rather foolish.

Forget it the committee is finished. The Democrats NEVER had any intention of running a fair and honest investigation. The Democrats know what the intelligence reports said, they were the same intelligence reports that Clinton was given. Give me a break. The only problem with the intelligence agencies are that Clinton put them in a straight jacket.

Fox has the memogate flap on AGAIN this morning!

We must all send more faxes, emails, and make more telephone calls THIS MORNING or they will get the idea that they have no public support.

Roy Blunt is on now, blasting the dems, and I'm glad. Says he's waiting for Rockefeller to disavow the memo. Edie says he never will.

I'M STILL FURIOUS! If you are too, then WE must, individually, each single one of us, MUST demand accountability, from the alphabet news SPONSORS, from the SENATE, from ROCKEFELLER!

If we don't, then it is WE who are spineless, WE who don't care about treason, and WE who have let the issue drop.

Thanks, backhoe, for everything you do, it's greatly appreciated.

We CANNOT let this go to the back-burner! It is our responsibility, if we value our country, to demand that the hypocrat traitors, who are desperate to see this story die, are held to account!

FReepers--send your faxes, your emails, and make your phone calls today! We know it's treason, let your voice be heard!

I have not heard anyone say that this investigation by the intel committee is a stupid waste of time anyway. We, the real intelligence, know why we invaded Iraq. What's the use in trying to dig up dirt just to please stupid democrats that will never be pleased with anything anyway? This is all just a bunch of phooey to make the republicans appear cooperative.
