Personally, I'm hoping Mike Foster runs for Breaux's Senate seat. I remember this last Senate race, when it was rumored that Foster would run against Landreau, the Democrats were very concerned.

I'm sure one more Republican in the Senate wouldn't hurt the country too bad, much less than another Democrat.

I have just moved to Louisiana from Massachusetts. I've learned the hard way how much a new governor can rock the boat of your daily life. After Mitt Romney got elected, MA wasn't such a desirable place to be any more. Every time you turn around up there, another subsidy or program's been slashed. Last year's extreme winter wasn't the time to pull the plug, either.

Now I'm here trying to figure out this whole gubernatorial race in LA. It's pretty disconcerting to watch all these TV commercials with the same recurring theme about Louisiana being such an awful place and how things have got to change and how so-and-so is just the candidate to make people proud again. I am shocked by the in-your-face negativity of these ads. Obviously, something major is about to happen to disrupt the status quo in this place, but I can't put my finger on what it will be. I have relatives here who are employed by the state, and they're worried about their jobs and their futures. I got offered a job to work for the state government myself, and I passed on it because I have a really weird feeling that it's not going to be a secure environment after the election. Something's going to upset the apple cart, let alone the "good ole boy" network. I feel it in my bones.

Still, I can't figure out which candidate will be the one to start the dominoes falling. Will Blanco rescue the undereducated, uninsured masses, or will Jindal slash their benefits? What's the deal??

I'm with you, OldFriend, it's the emigration of this type of individual who is transforming the South for the worse, not the better.

The devolvment of the program top-heavy superstate has to begin somewhere! This is the problem facing Arnold in California, and almost all states in our union. If you don't grasp this concept, what are you doing at Free Republic?

Um...trying to start a discussion that doesn't immediately disintegrate into a mudslinging flamefest?

Hehehe...funny.

Yes, Louisiana's problem is we're undertaxed and understaffed. All this time I though it was inefficient gov't that was little more than a jobs program.
