[history]
The recent battle over the CBS miniseries The Reagans simultaneously demonstrates the American right's new media power and its lingering sense of persecution and impotence. On the one hand, conservatives flexed their muscles with a stunning mobilization of public protest to force the network to cancel plans to broadcast the series in its mid-November "sweeps" period.

We Need a "Reagan" movie that gives Reagan the respect he deserves.

Again many conservatives like me would be glad to buy stock in these organizations. You and me both....great suggestions BTW. I'd be a buyer in any one of 'em cause their success would be virtually assured. Witness the astonishing success of FOX against all cable comers.
The public is literally CRAVING an alternative voice to the RAT propaganda machine.

"I doubt CBS et al will ever make a docudrama of Kennedy disclosing his womanizing and drug addicitions/dependencies."
Well, it wasn't CBS and it wasn't a docudrama, but I did watch parts of "The Kennedys" mini-series years ago, it may well have been PBS, I don't remember. It was fairly unstinting as I recall, and I will never forget the last line. The series had old Joe, Sr. as the lead protagonist, and after the lengthy recountings of death and disgrace, the narrator said "He was willing to pay any price for power, but he never dreamed the price would be so high."
And for one second I felt very sorry for the lot of them.

It was at most a skirmish in the culture wars. If the movie had not been filled with actionable slanders, conservatives would not have been able to chase them off the air. I agree. I'd love to see a respectful treatment of Reagan's experience in the Screen Actor's Guild, for example--but where are you gonna get the expertise to make it? The experts are pretty much dead set against giving Reagan an even break, let alone a favorable hearing.

The general thrust of the article is fine, but there is little concrete suggestion just how we crack the near monopoly that he refers to. Simply organizing to demand balance in programming will not supply the production needs involved, even if the studio and network managers decide to humor us. The sad truth is that most of the "artistic" community exhibit the same signs of near total brainwashing, as do most of the Academic community. The break through in "Talk Radio," is purely a result of the high ratings that anyone challenging the Leftist stereotypical analysis of the contemporary scene can expect to generate.
But it is a lot easier to find a good talker--an articulate individual than the combination of talent required to produce a good movie or TV series--and then you still have to sell that combination to a studio, etc..
Don't mistake my drift. I think Medved is right. We have to try to meet this challenge. But don't anyone imagine that it will be easy.
