I thought Jessica was remarkably candid and courageous. She said she had absolutely no recollection of the Iraqi man who claims to helped in her rescue -- could be why she was reluctant to meet with him last week. Doctors and nurses in the Iraqi hospital also disputed his claims.

I watched the interview, and was amazed by how little Jessica knew about her weapon. And it's obvious from her account of most of the soldiers weapons jamming or malfunctioning that they did not properly clean and care for the very tool that ultimatly could keep them sucking air.


It's something the Army needs to take a look at IMHO, mantainence crew or not, they are still soldiers first and need to have constant training in the basics of warfare even if it appears to have little to do with their field of expertise.

I'm steering clear of the flame war other than to say it was obvious to me also from the interview that Jess would have curled up into a fetal position even if her gun had been functional before the crash.

I'm in complete agreement with you. The Iraqi lawyer's version of his own heroism has been called into question before; I think Jessica Lynch was gracious in her comments. She didn't call him a liar; his own people did.

I don't know about the fetal position - she handled her interview with Diane Sawyer well, and she appears to have been courageous in dealing with her horrible injuries. In watching her though, I really thought she was better suited for something other than military combat. She's petite, gracious and soft-spoken. These are characteristics I'd expect to see in a teacher or a mother rather than a soldier. If she were my daughter, I'd have tried mighty hard to keep her out of the military. She's done her duty to the best of her ability, but at a mighty high price. I find it outrageous that our military policies permitted her to be in such a dangerous situation at all.

I can't watch Diane for very long because, to me, it looks like she's talking with someone else's mouth. She sounds OK, it's the visual thing...it's like she rented those lips and hasn't had a chance to get used to them yet.

Yes, there is no doubt, Sawyer is a Wellesley media slut. But this is insane. Just listen to the weakness in this girl's voice. Didn't fire a shot?? That doesn't surprise me. I doubt she has the physical strength to even pick up a weapon.

Besides being poorly educated (just listening to her speak conjures up an image of someone raised in the hills of West Virginia) and needing a steady paycheck (albeit a small one) what was this tiny little thing doing in the army?? In combat, no less??

Number one, she never should have been in the army. Number two, since she was, she never should have been sent to Iraq. Number three, her squad was lost in the desert. She was the lone survivor, she was injured, she offered the enemy no resistance, and she was rescued. The rape allegation is unconvincing, but anything is possible from the depraved Iraq forces. That's it. End of story.

She is NO Heroine. She is NO Role Model. There was NO justifiable reason for writing a book. NO one has placed a gun to her head and forced her to do interviews with the LIBERAL scum of the media. NO one made her accept some stupid Woman of the Year award (for what in God's name??).

Why every little sniveling twit on the face of the earth has to have his or her 15 minutes of fame is beyond me. Jessica Lynch. Shut up! Go away and be quiet while the real heros of this global conflict risk their lives and give their lives to allow you to cash your dirty, filthy, one million dollar checks from books and movies!

Jessica Lynch has become a politicized "football" for the looney left to attack President Bush as you have just seen over and over the last few days with rectal cavities like Sawyer trying to use the story and spin the story to their advantage. Had Lynch refused to do interviews, to write a book, to accept an award, to just shut up and go back to civilian life, they wouldn't have the opportunity to exploit her for their own purposes.
