I happen to know this establishment pretty well. I have not been there in some time, but the owners will see me again soon.

Over 400+ Golden Corral restaurants offered free meals to veterans and active duty personnel Monday night. This is the third year in a rwo that they have done this!
KUDOs to them, as well.

Thanks Brother. When I was stationed in Boston (I know, what was a soldier doing stationed in Boston?) there was a golf course in Revere that let anybody with an active duty ID card or disabled veterans play for free. Any other vets and retirees played for half price. Needless to say it was popular with all of us. We made sure we bought lots of food and drink to help cover our expenses.
If I were there I would gladly do business first at this place also.

As I live on the North Coast of America, (someone has to protect the border from the Canadians, eh?), and I will probably never get a chance to get back to the Boston area so I will not be frequenting Mr Cocomazzi's establishments.
I did the next best thing.
I wrote a letter, (and I never write to anyone), thanking him for his kindness and generosity toward America's veterans, and put a $25.00 check in it, asking him if I could help him pay for a few of the meals.
It's not much, but it helps keep the fire of patriotism lit in one corner of this country, and helps one of *US* out.
It was a good Veteran's Day as I got to go to a local elementary school and share with the children in two fourth grade classes how Veterans Day came to be, and what it stands for. It would have been perfect if I got to thank Mr. Cocomazzi personally, and shake his hand.
Have you hugged a Gold Star Mother and thanked her for her sacrifice? It is almost as much as that of her son or daughter.

BTW, a big NEOhio/NWPennsylvania ping for a very deserving man, Mr Michael Cocomazzi.

Thanks for the post, Radix. Nice neighbors you have up there.

Cocomazzi, D'Ann's owner, introduced the free Veterans Day lunches for veterans in 2001 amid the national grief that followed the Sept. 11 attacks.

What? Women served? :o)
Really though, this was great. Thanks for the ping.
When we tell people we are both Vets, you wouldn't believe the shocked looks we get sometimes. Then when they realize I'm a 100 percent totally disabled vet.. they really get blown away.
I love articles like this. Women who serve(d) deserve that service being acknowledged. It is like the twighlight zone sometimes. Why people find us serving such a hard concept is beyond understanding. It's so bizarre. Especially when it seemed so natural to me (to all of us who did serve).

Thanks for the ping. Great story.

Yes, burp, they did, and I, too, FULLy appreciated it.
I really enjoy Sirloin Night, where they're grilling the slabs of meat in front of me. They ask me how big of a piece I would like sliced off the slab, and I say "yes, the whole piece, please". Takes up the whole plate (but not for long).

Bump!

We had several local restaurants who served free meals to vets Tuesday. They do it every year. Some are locally owned and the Golden Corral served free steaks.
