In all fairness, Tarrytown is the problem. Austin needs to go to single member districts, but those in Tarrytown know that it threatens their stronghold on area politics. Of course, these are the same people mad that Austin is going to be split due to redistricting.

I work for an organization that falls under the annual Combined Federal Campaign. We are bombarded with sweet little guilt trips trying to get us to pony up some funds for "charity". The charity is the United Way. Ack!
Here is a sampling of the trash that fills our mailboxes:
**************************
DID YOU KNOW??????????
A gift of $3 per pay period for one year will immunize 50 children against measles.
CFC was started by President Kennedy in 1961 to consolidate all workplace solicitation into one comprehensive campaign.
All charities in the CFC brochure have to apply each year and meet certain criteria to participate in the CFC.
"People have to believe in their capacity to bring about a good result. All effective action is fueled by hope." -- John Gardner
Let's make our community, our country and our world, a better place to live. Please join me and give to your favorite charity during the 2003 CFC.
If you need a Contributor's Guide or a Pledge card, please contact me or your Directorate's keyperson.
**********************************************
Don't give through the Combined Federal Campaign if...........
- Your child or grandchild will never want to join the Scouts
- You're sure that no one in your family will ever have cancer, or heart disease
- You're certain we'll always have all the clean air and water we need
- You know that you'll never suffer a crippling stroke that may require physical therapy and/or home nursing care
- You're sure that a flood, hurricane, fire or other disaster will not destroy your home or place of work
- You really don't care if plant and animal species disappear
- You're sure that your neighborhood leaders won't need guidance in identifying community issues and problems affecting residents
- You've always been able to handle every life challenge by yourself
- You're certain that your teenager or will never need counseling for drug-related problems
- You're positive that you and your parents will never need nursing care
- Violence will never touch you or your family
"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in it's place is something that you left behind.......let it be for something good." -- Unknown

Never give any money to the United Way!!!! The last check United Way will ever get from me was written 15 years ago. Sadly, my company was recently bought by an outfit that has an annual United Way fundraiser, so I have to endure all the little gimmicks they do to meet their goal.
They met it this year and gave a little box of chocolates to everyone as a thank-you; I returned my box, unopened, to the department secretary.

Under the terms of an agreement unanimously approved Wednesday by the United Way board, the Scouts will remain a partner agency until June 30, 2004 and will receive about $157,000. Then -- although it will no longer be affiliated with the United Way -- the group will receive another $157,000 for 2005 as transition funding, Heidrick said. Then funding will stop. The organization I work for is one of the largest contributors to the United Way Capital Area. This will be the last year I will donate to their cause. My dollars will go to the Boy Scouts only.
There are several other service organizations I can donate money and clothing to that serve the entire community, other than United Way.

Simple ..... boycott the United Way... from now on.I believe that this is already happening. I live in a suburb of Seattle, and just read in the local paper about a downturn in funding from United Way because they haven't met their revenue goals. Just say no to this corrupt organization.

Bingo. My sentiments exactly.

Tolerance is not enough. Unblinking acceptance is the order of the day.

Randall Ellis, executive director of the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas, called the split a "bold step" for the United Way. Perhaps this person needs to hear from Texans.
To: will1776
After a 76-year partnership, the United Way Capital Area and the Boy Scouts are parting ways because the Scouts organization excludes gays. OK, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this premise a lie? I understand the Scouts serve anyone. It's Scout leadership that can't be gay.
I must say that if any Scouters are identifying themselves as gay before the age of, say, 16, they really need the Scouts to help set them straight anyway and should be encouraged to join.
Shalom.

Any way we can ship Austin to the left coast where it belongs? I suspect that if you moved the Longhorns that Austin would much more accurately reflect the great state of which it is a capitol.

Just talked to Randall Ellis he said that more child molestations were by hetersextual men not homosexual.
If anyone calls, please have figures to refute this claim
To: will1776
The United Way is heavily feeding on aids funding. It is just a matter of following the dollars. The scouts only bring "legitimacy" to the united way. Homosexual sex behavior brings dollars.
BTW ask if your attorney is a member of the united way. They have a special branch for attorney members. They use it to "network". Don't hire an attorney who is a member of the aclu or the united way.
To: will1776
Why ANYONE donates to the United Way is beyond me. Kudos to the Boy Scouts!!!
To: The UnVeiled Lady
that is a myth from the homosexual lobby. They also define male on male sex as hetersexual sex when it is a criminal act. Percentage wise far more homosexuals are child molesters than straight people.
Analogy: Would you put your child on an airplane if there was a 30% chance that the would not survive?
Homosexuallity is a mental illness. (consider it a fetish like necrophilia)
Every year the United Way appeal comes with my pay check. I have annually taken great pains to let as many people as I can watch me tear it to shreds and throw it in the hopper. I give my money to the local second hand shop. The proceeds go the catholic school my children attended.
