If they set off the big one, follow these directions because it is the only thing you can do:
Stand straight up
take everything sharp out of your shirt pocket(s)
Relax at the knees and bend at your waist
Grab the back of your thighs with your hands
Bend at the waist
Bend your knees
Place your head firmly between your thighs and
kiss your ass goodbye.
End of directions.

not really... it really depends on how close you are to the blast.
within certain ranges, you'll get incinerated faster than you can realize what's happening.
at slightly more distant ranges, you'll get shredded by the flying debris/glass/wood/steel.
At slightly more ranges, you can seek cover from that debris and survive. You'll need to run like hell after the blast wave to avoid excess radiation exposure (I wonder if modern cars work after EMP?)
At still further ranges, your suvival depends on the wind direction (fallout and radiation exposure are the issue).
So, yes, you can survive if you are beyond the immediate effects of the weapon. You just need to have a way to get out of range of the effects. Unfortunately if you are within several miles of ground zero, you're probably Krispy Kreme.
