Nah, he should have gotten his butt off the beach and attacked the freaking Germans.
As far as Patton being an Anti-semite..maybe, do you have evidense of this, and was Mony really pro-semite?

Monty had his good moments and his bad moments. On the whole I think he was somewhat over the hill in the later stages of the war.

Since you ask...
From "The War between the Generals" by David Irving
Patton "told his staff that he could not understand how the Arabs could share their hovels with animals. Arriving in Sicily, he added that he could not understand how the animals could live with Sicilians in their yards." By the end of the war Patton was expressing serious doubts about the results of the conflict. In a letter to his wife, he confessed: "Berlin gave me the blues. We have destroyed what could have been a good race and we [are] about to replace them with Mongolian savages." And in another letter, Patton admitted: "The stuff in the papers about fraternization is all wet... All that sort of writing is done by Jews to get revenge. Actually, the Germans are the only decent people left in Europe... I prefer the Germans. So do our cousins [the British]." After touring refugee camps he came to see Jews as "lower than animals."

OK guys, let's not re-fight WWII, especially since we've both got our young men and women fighting side by side to keep this war on terror from turning into WWIII.
I don't think anyone meant to insult Monty, I think they were insulting this guy's attempt to look like Monty when he's less than half the man.

Patton was an old school aristocrat and a nutjob in almost every way. Fortunately for the US he wound up serving his contry in a role for which he was ideally suited. The miracle was that he survived such a long career in the peacetime army without resigning or blowing his brains out from sheer desperate boredom.

Not really, how about his comment about the Arabs (who are also semites BTW)? Or his comment about the Germans being the only decent people in Europe?
He appeared to have an arrogant disdain for just about everybody, including the "Mongolian Hordes" and the Sicilians.
Has all the characteristics of racial bigotry to me.

Nah, I really didn't intend to insult Monty. However, I'll be damned if I pretend he was a great military mind.
The Britts love Monty like American's love FDR. Interestingly, the differences in Monty and Patton reflect the differences in our culture. The Britts disdain for Patton, and "Cowboys" in general, reflect a certain bigotry towards Americans. Most seem to think Americans are unprofessional, reckless, ignorant, and uneducated. Notice the implication that Patton was less educated then Monty. Monty was educated at Dunkirk, Monty failed to pay attention, at least Patton did.
This bigotry hinders their military's ability appreciate Maneuver Warfare...which Patton embodied. (probably because they think it's mispelled). This seems to be true today, during the first Gulf War, a certain Britt commander refused to fight alongside the USMC, who has adopted maneuver warfare as doctrine. The reason given was the Marines "recklessness". The Marines, and maneuver warfare, won that war. I don't recall the Britt commanders name.
Monty, was surely better than this clown, who trys to dress like him. Monty was probably a better man than most of us. But he was not Patton's better, especially not in combat.

Well, I'll accept your anaysis as close to accurate and the nearest thing to an apology as we are likely to get...:-)
BTW Brits are Brits, not Britts, there is only one T in British.

Actually, I will apologize. To make any comparison between some sleaze ball in uniform and a Brit (one T) is un-called for. I guess I'm still a little ticked that Manchester United were the first team to sell out Seahawk Stadium.
I still think Monty was a little to stuck on being proper, professional, and Von Clauswitz at the expense of performance. But that could be my own bigotry speaking.
I also think the above quote from Patton declaring jews "..lower than animals", not being a complete sentence, is dependant on context for meaning. The auther would have used the entire sentence if it had supported his conclusion, IMO.
As for German's being the best people in Europe at the end of the war...I have to agree with him. France and Italy/Sicily were Bannana Republics in comparison. And the Arabs, please, they are walking proof that cultures are not created equally.

Your analysis of Monty is spot on, and don't worry about Manchester United, their day is done, they are in the process of being eclipsed by Chelsea as the World's pre-eminent team.
