[history]
Yesterday, unions and other proponents began pushing pending legislation that would ban smoking in public and private work places in the District. While smoking bans in New York and other cities mostly target bars and eating establishments, the D.C. bill means that cabbies could not smoke in their own taxis, whether they have a passenger or not, and that anyone who employs someone in their private residence

anyone who employs someone in their private residence as a nanny, housekeeper, handyman, etc. would be prohibited from smoking in their own home.Anyone that comes in my house works under my rules - Smoking is allowed, be nice to the dog and don't complain about the right wing wacko on the radio.

All three are Democrats 'Nough said. Unfortunately no, More often than not it's the Republicans who are the biggest anti-freedom enemy.
* Mike Bloomberg Republican pushed a city ban before the state and is the ultimate anti-smoking Nazi
* NYC Councilman Odo(Staten Island) a Republican who introduced the city ban.
* All 38 Republican NYS Senators voted for the ban (It should be noted that the GOP has a big 38-24 majority in that chamber)
* George Pataki Republican governor signed it.
* John Rowland Republican Governor Connecticut also signed a total ban in his state.
* The chief sponsors of the Delaware smoking ban were Republicans Reps. Deborah Hudson (Fairthorne) and Robert J. Valihura Jr.(Edenridge)
* It was a Republican Senator Karl Turner (Cumberland)that originally sponsored the ban in Maine
* Republican Governors Guinn, Kempthorne, Pataki, Perry, Rowland, Taft and Probably a few others I can't think of right now all have recently raised taxes on cigarettes
* Republican Senators Judd and Hatch right now are working on stopping people from buying cigarettes over the internet and getting congress to regulate (i.e. Ban) tobacco.
* John Ashcroft a Republican appointee via the justice system is continuing where Janet Reno left off and suing the tobacco companies.
The only Republican that is remotely standing up for smokers is Arnold Swarzenegger.

Don't know why the rest of my reply didn't show up. The rest of it was that he suspends my first amendment rights at his house and since he did that he finds it prudent to suspend my second amendment rights also.

I guess I'll have to fire my butler, maid, nanny, personal trainer, driver, yacht captain, private jet crew, etc. This will cause a huge swell in local unemployment.

Here it comes. They (the gnatzies) didn't believe us. Next, split families by allowing the state to confiscate children from smoking parents. Then we can go to work on the obesity problem. (oops, already started that one!)

This would also mean a ban in all homes. The potential for an inspection of the home by cities and counties for electric, plumbing, and other codes would mean that a city employee might have to come into any home. Therefore, all smoking in all homes must be restricted to ensure that all city/county employees are not exposed to the smell of smoke. (not necessarily SHS or ETS, just the lingering smell). That then leads to a coworker being exposed to the smell of smoke on clothes of anyone, another reason to detect if someone smokes in THEIR HOME, therefore a detection measure for a fine!
