Democracy's ironies
Washington Times ^ | Thursday, November 20, 2003 | William Murchison

In the world-saving business, it's always something. The British public is alienated over the war in Iraq. Protesters clog London on the occasion of President Bush's visit there, asserting their sovereign right to say anything absurd that comes to mind. Saddam tapes another message, excoriating the United States. Two U.S. helicopters collide in midair over Mosul, and 17 more American troops die.

A simple and unpretentious -- and true -- opinion piece. Money quote in the last two paragraphs.

Awesome editorial.

I remember William when he was Bill Murchison. *g*

Thank you!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The quest for perfect solutions in human affairs is an all-too-human preoccupation: one that dooms humans to the perpetual frustration that proceeds from hopes less than perfectly realized.
"If only ... ." we keep exclaiming. It doesn't work that way, least of all in democracies, where the perpetual clamor for a piece of the action excludes the prospect of completely logical outcomes.
What the left lacks, is vision, they are guided and driven by their emotions. The Liberal Elite's here and abroad, are so self-absorbed that they think Liberty is something they alone deserve. They call George W. Bush arrogant! But they continue to subscribe to the notion that the oppressed peoples in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Iran and all other oppressed peoples in the 3rd World are not deserving, or capable of, self-determination. I find this kind of thinking as "Arrogance on Steroids" and these shallow minded Liberals should be called to the mat for such ignorance.
