Louisville lawyer Fred Cowan pulled out of the race for the U.S. Senate yesterday, saying Democrats' loss of the governorship had made it impossible for him to unseat first-term Republican Sen. Jim Bunning next November.

Cowan's withdrawal leaves state Sen. Daniel Mongiardo of Hazard as the only Democratic candidate, but state Treasurer Jonathan Miller said he is still considering the race and other key Democrats mentioned other potential candidates.

Conway said he would not rule out running for the Senate, because he could be the only Louisville candidate in the primary and his family has roots in Western Kentucky. "The downside is the money," he said. "I don't believe in getting in races unless you know where your money's coming from."

Ol' Pretty boy who lost to Northup and chickened out of running again is considering taking on Bunning. This would be interesting.

This would be interesting.

Beasler and/or Chandler will vile for Bunnings' senate seat, you watch. LCJ and LHL will push and push...that's all they (LCJ & LHL) have left.

I don't think either of them are running...although Baesler would be good for entertainment purposes. They could pull out the old Fancy Farm clips of him yelling "Thaaaat's Riiiight!" :-)
