Palin backs Tea Party favorite Joe Miller for Alaska GOP Senate nod Published August 15, 2014 Sarah Palin is throwing her support behind Tea Party favorite Joe Miller in the looming Republican primary for the Alaska Senate race.  The former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential nominee announced her support Friday in a written statement, provided to Fox News.  The statement said:  "To restore liberty, to defend our Constitution, to build American exceptionalism, we must send fighters to the U.S. Senate who will stop Barack Obama's fundamental transformation of the nation we love. The status quo has got to go,...

Dear Chancellor Miller: I just received my spring semester student evaluations and was quite pleased with the results. As usual, they were almost uniformly positive. However, one bad evaluation has caused me some concerns. After you read the following, I'm sure you will share my concerns (and I'm hoping you will consider my suggested remedy): "This guy is a lawsuit waiting to happen. He makes misogynistic, homophobic remarks in class (as well as online) that are offensive (esp. to people like me who have been raped and stalked). Intrepid, pro-gun journalist Emily Miller is leaving the Washington Times and heading to greener pastures as the chief investigative reporter for WTTG, a Fox-owned station in Washington, D.C. Miller, who will start the new gig on April 28, addressed the transition via her Facebook page on Friday, saying, “I’m just so excited.” Apparently, FOX 5 is equally excited to bring the seasoned journalist and award-winning author into the newsroom for some hard-hitting stories. “Emily’s tenacity and experience as a print reporter covering a wide range of issues makes her a fierce competitor and an asset for FOX 5,” WTTG general...

(Reuters) - Prime Minister David Cameron's handling of an expenses scandal engulfing one of his ministers has put him under pressure before European elections, threatening his Conservative party's already clouded electoral outlook. Cameron, whose party risks being beaten into third place in next month's European Parliament elections behind the anti-EU UK Independence party (UKIP), has stood by Maria Miller, Britain's minister for culture, since a parliamentary report ordered her to pay back wrongly claimed expenses last week. But the media and public backlash against Miller shows no sign of abating despite Cameron's efforts to end it. Many of his own...

President Obama is scrambling to put Band-Aids on the health care law instead of admitting that it is DOA. He pushed Obamacare through Congress with the promise that it would help the 30 million uninsured Americans and not hurt the rest of us. Five years later, the government intrusion has disrupted the coverage of the more than 300 million Americans who were content with their insurance, and it is already dragging down the economy. Mr. Obama is trying to hide the problems. That’s why the White House announced Monday it would again push back the deadline for the mandate to...

**SNIP** In Congress, how much you raise depends on your committee jobs - especially chairmanships - and the influence you've built up with the people who donate money. Miller and Waxman have been at the top of the heap for Pelosi. And since both represent safe Democratic districts, the money they raise can be redistributed to candidates running in tight races. It will be years before their respective replacements will be able to carry that kind of weight. The two people who take Miller's and Waxman's seats will be on political welfare.

Virginia Democratic Rep. Jim Moran will retire after 23 years in the House, according to multiple Democratic sources. The retirement is the third for Democrats this week: on Monday, Rep. George Miller (Calif.) said he would leave Congress after 40 years and Rep. Bill Owens (N.Y.) announced Tuesday he would forgo re-election in 2014. Moran’s northern Virginia seat is heavily Democratic, and is unlikely to be competitive in November: President Barack Obama won 68 percent of the vote in both 2012 and 2008, and Moran coasted with 65 percent of the vote in 2012. A uniform summons and complaint document says the offense happened on the 12000 block of Easter Ave in Foxfield, about four blocks from Miller's listed home address. The document does not elaborate on the nature of Miller's alleged careless driving. Court records show Miller was...

With homosexual activists on the march throughout our government, military, schools and society in general, many of us have warned that their push for special “rights” would—besides trample on the freedoms of speech, religion and association of those who oppose them—inevitably lead to demands by other sexual deviants, like pedophiles, for their own societal affirmation. The police refuse to turn over the public documents in the case, and the city council is allowing them to stonewall. Mr. Gregory wielded the “high capacity” magazine on his Dec. 23 “Meet the Press” show. Sleight Of Arms: Liberals’ anti-gun pincer movement by Daniel Clark In the aftermath of the mass murder (not “the tragedy”) in Newtown, Connecticut, we’re hearing the predictable calls for “commonsense” gun legislation. President Obama is pushing for a reinstatement of the “assault weapons ban” that expired in 2004, in contradiction of the “I believe in the Second Amendment” sweet nothings he’d been whispering through much of his first term. The argument behind such a ban is that there’s no reason for a private citizen to own military-style weapons, or in the president’s words, “AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers,...

Everybody’s been too damn polite about this nonsense: The “Occupy” movement, whether displaying itself on Wall Street or in the streets of Oakland (which has, with unspeakable cowardice, embraced it) is anything but an exercise of our blessed First Amendment. “Occupy” is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness. These clowns can do nothing but harm America. “Occupy” is nothing short of a clumsy, poorly-expressed attempt at anarchy, to the extent that the “movement” – HAH! Some “movement”, except if the word “bowel” is attached - is...

At the same time as I trudge through the Washington, D.C. bureaucracy in my attempt to get a legal handgun for self defense, I need to learn how to safely operate and shoot a gun. I have no experience with guns. Although my father had a handgun while I was growing up -- Baltimore is less safe than D.C. -- he hid it from us and never talked about it. I only know that he had it because as a kid, I found a revolver under the driver’s car seat. He told me never to touch it, and that was...

Americans need to know why the Energy Department approved a loan guarantee for Solyndra when the company was so clearly troubled. But politicizing this mess to smear the entire renewable energy industry won't help the country or the jobless. This industry is estimated to have doubled its number of American jobs in the past two years. Demonizing it could cripple its job-creating potential. San Jose's SunPower is the latest victim. Fox News has made a series of outrageous claims about it, calling its $1.2 billion federal loan guarantee a scandal "bigger than Solyndra." This is utterly baseless. Fox, without a...

How did a failing California solar company, buffeted by short sellers and shareholder lawsuits, receive a $1.2 billion federal loan guarantee for a photovoltaic electricity ranch project—three weeks after it announced it was building new manufacturing plant in Mexicali, Mexico, to build the panels for the project. The company, SunPower (SPWR-NASDAQ), now carries $820 million in debt, an amount $20 million greater than its market capitalization. If SunPower was a bank, the feds would shut it down. Instead, it received a lifeline twice the size of the money sent down the Solyndra drain. Two men with insight into the process...

MIDDLEBURY — One child is dead and five injured after their pony cart was struck by an SUV in the 10500 block of County Road 24 in Middlebury. According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, around 10 Monday morning the children pulled out onto the road and into the path of the eastbound SUV. One child, 10-year-old Jenna Miller, died at the scene from head injuries. Police say the pony, which was also killed, was pulling two carts. The SUV only hit the pony and the first cart. Three medical helicopters were called in to take four of the children...
