You know this will be challenged and the challenger will win don't you?
I have aconstitutional right to own a gun but I damn sure don't want a government body making a law that I MUST own a gun.

No way! You know how low the crime gets when laws are passed and have been passed where citizens are forced to carry guns? It goes to nearly nothing!

I think we should be required to purchase at least one gun a month...and if we can't afford it...there should be welfare for that too.

Check into early colonial militia laws.
Look into such laws from your state -
Used to be the norm.

I have aconstitutional right to own a gun but I **** sure don't want a government body making a law that I MUST own a gun.I think it is reasonable because the city is imposing this in lieu of a police force. If you don't have a gun, you are jeopardizing the welfare of your neighbors who, lacking a local police force, must depend on you both for your deterrent effect and to come to their assistance in case you witness a prowler or some other villain. IMHO, the fine should be a lot more than ten dollars.

You know this will be challenged and the challenger will win don't you? It's not like this is the first town to do so. The town in Georgia, Kenesaw?, passed a similar law a good number of years ago, and it's still in force AFAI.Who's going to challenge the law, some out of stater brought in by the ACLU? They wouldn't have standing to challenge it. On what basis would it be unconstitutional? What provision of the Constitution would it violate? The federal government could pass such a law tomorrow, and it would be constitutional as well. In fact, one of the first laws passed by the first Congress did something similar, although the requirement was only on males (try that today!) It also specified that the arms be of the type used by the army! (hmm, wonder if that one was ever formally repealed? ah well it was too specific, so it would require us to own a musket, of a particular calibre, or a rifle, depending on where we lived. If we had a horse, we'd have to have a brace of pistols and a saber...maybe the people in places that ban pistols should go out and buy a horse? :) )
This KS law doesn't require anyone morally scrupulous of being armed to keep arms. So what is your problem? Better they should tax everybody, and use the money to buy a nice shiney police car and hire Barney to drive it? Oh and of course buy Barney a gun a bullet or two?

I have aconstitutional right to own a gun but I damn sure don't want a government body making a law that I MUST own a gun. Not exactly, you don't have a constitutional right, the Bill of Rights, forbids the Government from infringing on your God given right to own guns. I agree, it is not up to any government entity to mandate what I own.

This is not the first one and the other cases won. The key is that the laws like this contain a conscience clause. Anyone whose conscience objects can register their objection with the city hall. (of course this puts all thieves on notice of which house is safe.)
The other point to this law is the PR factor. Whether or not actually enforced, It is now the county which required a gun in every house. A thief will just move on to an unarmed county.

I have aconstitutional right to own a gun but I damn sure don't want a government body making a law that I MUST own a gun. I respect your dissenting opinion, but the Framers settled that issue in 1787. You are a member of the Kansas Militia, which is the People in arms, and under the Militia Act you're supposed to own a serviceable firearm. May I suggest a Bushmaster, or maybe an AR-10? If you're strong, and stoutly built, and have been blessed with a measure of prosperity, perhaps you could go the $3600 for a Dragunov SVD, or maybe the $6500 for a Barrett M1982, and start using your wide-open Kansan spaces for a little long-range marksmanship training.
