Not much to say. But as infrequently as I post, and seeing that often people have a bit to say about long time accounts that suddenly see new activity, I figure I should put something here for those who look.

I am known to some here, and know a few others. Many I used to seek out are no longer with us. Others I used to avoid or wonder about are actually more prolific again.
I figured out a long time ago that most of what I had to add to the conversation would be said eventually by some likely more astute Freeper than I, if it needed saying.
I also came to the conclusion, unlike some more prominent members I know, that being more vocal and open was not more likely to protect me than silence. But the times for that are likely past, who knows? No doubt we are all counted somewhere, might as well be counted for something.
Still, I don’t post much. First there was a several year break due to caring for family concerns, during which time I seldom even lurked, and was surprised to discover the forum’s most interesting developer of exotic weapons had become its most renowned playboy instead.
Then there was a growing period wherein I pulled back from much social media as it no longer passed the grandmother test: would my grandmother approve of my participation in this or that forum? and later: would I want my children to read indiscriminately? This is a great place for learning what’s going on in the world and what people think of things, but it is not as family friendly as it was long ago.
I read regularly, and sometimes respond, often days or weeks after I note something, because I segregate my online presences as much as possible.

On that:
Sure, we are all known ultimately. Then internet does not work without addresses being readable. Encryption and vpns are ultimately the best signatures that you and you only are the author of an email or post or whatever. But why make it startlingly easy?
Today I saw again someone listing an amazon item with its long url. If you intend to keep your handle (semi)private, there’s nothing like a search string that identifies your google or amazon identity posted on a public forum.

It might be a bit, but I may put in a few other tidbits from time to time.
