I'm getting SBC phone service in Dallas for $45 a month unlimited local/long distance calling and ALL features - 3-way calling, caller ID, call forwarding, enhanced voicemail with forwarding, multiple mailboxes.
Why would I want VOIP?

With VOIP you can physically establish your "home" connection at any place that has broadband access (i.e. friends / relatives house, work, hotel room in Japan, etc). Also, you avoid (at least for now) the slew of taxes and regulatory fees imposed on phone bills.
