The Senate voted, 33 to 0, to repeal the law after only four minutes of debate.

When 67% of the state votes Republican in a governor's race, interesting things can happen.

Even without an agreement on new legislation, which Cedillo vowed to introduce in early January...

Please do Cedillo, and drive more moderates into Republican ranks.

I just received the following Email from Save Our License:

You did it!
Yesterday, I was in Sacramento and testified at the Senate Transportation Committee about Senator Oller's Bill to repeal SB 60. I told them that more than 60,000 volunteers were ready to take this issue to the people.

Several things have happened that may interest you.

1. First the committee, and then the entire State Senate, voted to fully repeal SB 60. The vote was 33-0 and marks the first time in modern history the Senate voted to repeal a bill while a referendum campaign was underway. This was done by the needed two thirds vote..

2. The Assembly is supposed to do the same within the next two days, and of course Governor Schwarzenegger will sign the bill.

This means you and the California Republican Assembly through Save Our License forced the Democrats to act.

Does anyone believe they would have done this without the threat of a referendum?

Now, to answer some questions that some of you have asked.

1. What do I do with any petitions that I have?

Send them in. Until this repeal is signed by the Governor there is still a chance that it may not happen. Mail them today. If the legislature does not act. We will turn in the signatures.

2. Why don't we submit the signatures and force an election on this issue?

First, there are several groups in addition to ours that have been collecting petitions. We would all have to agree to do so.

Second, there are legal issues surrounding a referendum to repeal a law that no longer exists. It could be a costly and time-consuming fight in the courts. Our organization does not have the resources for such a fight as we are still paying for the costs of this referendum drive.

3. What is all this talk about a deal or compromise?

There is no deal. We have never participated in discussions about a deal. We are told by others that there is no deal. I want to make it clear that CRA and Save Our License are opposed to giving licenses to people that are here illegally.

As a result, we will keep our effort in place to monitor and inform the public about bills introduced in the future. All Californians should let there legislators know where they are on this subject.

I am hopeful that our efforts have paid a great dividend in protecting the national and personal security of every person in California. We will know in the next few days if that hope is reality with the final repeal of SB 60.

Thank you for your help in this effort. This is a great victory for you, and for all Californians.

Sincerely,

Mike Spence, President
California Republican Assembly

Excellent news! Now if we could just get the CA National Guard on the border, deport all illegals, incarcerated or not and fine employers who hire them!
