It is ironic that, in defending Reagan against CBS, conservatives have resorted to quoting homosexuals and lesbian feminists.

That's because the conservatives were supporting the truth, and qouted those who were speaking the truth.

Usually Democrats are the ones who provide support based on WHO YOU ARE, not on what you are saying. After all, Democrats (and I mean the politicians, not the public), want you to support them because of WHO THEY ARE, NOT WHAT THEY SAY.
