ZOT! Socialism or Humanitarian-ism
11/26/03 | Michaelangelo

If there is one thing that I find shocking in so many self-proclaimed conservatives is their fear of any legislation that lends itself to bettering the lives and conditions of their fellow-countrymen. The idea of a national healthcare program, as an example, stiffens their backs, ices up their blood and throws them into paroxysms of terror. "We are moving towards socialism", becomes the outcry. Is it that we would be moving towards socialism or towards a more humanitarian way of dealing with the health needs of the general public. Do insurance companies and drug companies need to increase their wealth to epic proportions at the expense of the public? Do Doctors really need to become billionaires because they practice medicine in America? It seems that the current administration is dancing to the fiddles in the drug and insurance company orchestra. They could have done something great for the people of this country but once again we are sold down the river. A woman from Canada who wrote in to MSNBC could not have said it better, "America is a first rate nation with a third class health care system, we are proud of how we take care of our seniors here in Canada, why don't you do something for the people of your country and finally give them something they deserve to have". If that equates to socialism than vive la socialism, I prefer to call it humanitarian-ism which means a compassionate form of government. Do conservatives have a fear of compassion? How do you treat members of your own family? Would you let anyone in your family go without a doctor or healthcare if they needed it? Well we are all a family in this great country of ours or so we should be. When that concept finally sinks in then the fears will melt away and perhaps we can move towards a healthier life in every way instead of this huge dysfunctional hodgepodge we call Conservatism.

Sounds like you got the right idea. Now all you got to do is volunteer to pitch in and take care of a couple senior citizens for free and we will be back to a first-rate nation again. Not so?

I wonder when you will learn to compose a proper paragraph? You know, topic sentences, levels of generality, local coherence, topical consistency, clear transitions etc., etc.

Do you not see how our public schools have failed you, left you not only unable to articulate yourself intelligently, but barely literate at all? And you want to do the same to our healthcare system?!

more humanitarian way of dealing with the health needs of the general public.

You mean like long lines and extended wait for major surgery. Like Canada and England? Yep you’re right every country in the world feels sorry for the poor in America POOOOR AMERICANS.

Welcome to FreeRepublic, which has decided to take your advice.

The estimated wait time for an emergency ZOT is 4 months, 2 weeks, and 18 days. Please be patient.

Why do you hate people and want to enslave them? Do you think so little of your fellow man as to assume that he or she cannot get by without you?

It seems that you would, if government didn't pay for it. Government is not a substitute for personal responsibility.

How long would an elective ZOT take?

How do you treat members of your own family?

When they're children, they get hand outs. When they're adults, they must act like adults: be self-sufficient and independent providers, not leeches off me or others. Work for your bread, not living with a mind expecting entitlements. Anything beyond that, is a GIFT.

Well, I know you are gone dear, but perhaps your mom can read this to you.
I don't want national health care because it would be lousy care, simple, end of story.

So until someone comes up with a plan that covers everyone, but still maintains the quality of care one can get on ones' own, I say NO WAY, NO THANKS!

And the great big giant bill for this "gift" will get bigger every year. OOPS! I froze up again.

What are you, crazy?

Ahhh.....the squeal of a dying snake coming to us in a last ditch effort of desperation. I love it when people come in here with pathetic rants. It shows hysteria at it's best.

You need to do a lot of reading. You are way behind. Start with FDR's Folly. You can get it anywhere, except it seems if you look for it in a bookstore... under FDR, presidents, economics, fair deal, economics, raw deal, WW2, business, economics, or hippies.

Followup with Thomas Sowell's "Economics" for dummies. There are no charts or bell shaped curves for those averse to thinking beyond the next "Big Mac attack".

If this author's writing style, I'll call it "dysfunctional hodgepodge," is anything like his personality, the sooner he melts away the better.

He doesn't even use the pronoun "we" properly, let alone trickier concepts like "Conservativism." Back to Remedial English, Michaelangelo.

How long would an elective ZOT take?

Take a large unit of time, then multiply it by 19. Never mind scoffers like JoJo Gunn.

As a conservative, my family is my business, why would I hand them over to the tender mercy of a dispassionate, uninterested government functionary? It certainly seems like you have no problem with it. I guess you want others to do that which you don't want to do, thereby relieving you of the burden.

If this author's writing style, I'll call it "dysfunctional hodgepodge,"

You know there are a lot of things that can make someone talk or write that way which doesn't necessarily indicate any substantial cognitive difficulties that would impair their ability to comprehend cause/effect relationships such as the consequence of socialism being a failed economic experiment as amply evidenced by the collapse of the Soviet Union and the movement even of Red China towards a more free market economy that is willing to trade with other countries even their ideological opposites such as the United States which reminds me that the health care in China isn't necessarily better than that here in the United States even though it is widely criticized here by the likes of the original poster who failed to use paragraphs and that reminds me, what was your question?

;)
