WASHINGTON Washington Redskins wide receiver Patrick Johnson already has a job, but he's looking ahead to a potential life in the hard-hitting world of politics, according to a Fox News report.
The 27-year-old player and journalism graduate is working as an intern for GOPAC, the Republican political training organization led by another former football star and congressman, J.C. Watts.
Johnson spends one day a week at GOPAC participating in all the grunt duties of an intern, including learning how to raise funds for a political campaign.
Watts, a star quarterback for the University of Oklahoma and former Canadian Football Leaguer, spent four terms in the House of Representatives, retiring in 2002 as the fourth-ranked Republican in the House.
Watts is mentoring Johnson, who, according to the report, has not decided whether he plans to run for elected office.
However, if Johnson chooses to run with the ball, he would follow in the footsteps of NFL veterans Jack Kemp and Steve Largent.

Well, this puts a Cowboy fan in a bit of a quandry. How in the world can I support a sworn enemy like him?

The major problem is life experience. Perhaps Patrick is a mature guy. Who knows. Personal preference, I guess.

Yeah, tough decision. But once he's no longer a Redskin this Cowboy fan could support him. Heck, I liked J.C. Watts even though this third generation Longhorn had to watch him run over Texas a few times.

Since he is black I expect to see Jesse Jackson out there trying to help him out. Oh wait he is a black republican. Sorry.

I saw a pretty long segment about this guy on FNC. As a black conservative myself, I was happy to see it. Maybe he will inspire other young people to think about conservative politics.
As a native Washingtonian, and dyed in the wool Skins afficiando (don't know enough about football to be a fan), I was even happier.

I suppose I might be able to do it, although it's hard. It took years before I could publicly acknowledge that Joe Theisman does a pretty good job as a commentator.
