Wars have a tipping point when one side realizes that it will, inevitably, lose. In 1918, the unbeaten German Army in France and Belgian saw that the flow of fresh troops from America made ultimate defeat certain. In 1990, when the Berlin Wall was torn down, the ultimate collapse of the Soviet Empire was inevitable.

Leftism has reached the same tipping point: the Left will lose its war on America and ordered liberty. There is no specific event - no Battle of Midway or Siege of Yorktown - which precisely defines the coming collapse of Leftism, but a cluster of trends all point in the same direction.

Leftists pined for another Great Depression in America, which, they hoped, would bring back the good old days of soup lines and socialist rabble rousers. But the economy is growing at the fastest rate in two decades. This insures the reelection of President Bush, but it causes Leftists other problems as well.

Sanctimonious whining about the federal deficit, which never once concerned Leftists when the welfare state was being created, look increasingly silly as the engine of economic recovery produces much greater federal tax revenues. In the 2004 campaign, honest economic analysts will be able to project surpluses during the second term of President Bush.

Leftists invented the politics of personal destruction. They have used this tactic not only against politicians but against anyone who stands in their way, but it no longer works - and everyone sees that it no longer works.

Rush Limbaugh, hit with a double whammy in a single week, is back on the air and very popular. The risible concern expressed about Mel Gibson’s production of a film which simply reflects the honest beliefs of Christians about the death of Jesus failed to concern serious people and will insure a bigger audience for The Passion.

Katherine Harris is now Congresswoman Harris and a member of the leadership of the majority party in Congress. Newt Gingrich is a frequent and respected commentator on conservative news programs. Senator Carnahan, by contrast, is now citizen Carnahan. Governor Davis is now citizen Davis.

Most important, the shrill hatred of President Bush, whose personal popularity has been higher than any president in the history of modern polling, shows the Lilliputian size of the Left. Conservatives and other normal people look at Leftist whining about President Bush’s surprise Thanksgiving visit to our troops in combat zones with a combination of bafflement and contempt.

Leftists attackers now find themselves the attacked. The LA Times-Democrat and the New York Times-Democrat double teamed Governor Schwarzenegger several days before the recall election. Their sneaky slanders did not hurt him, but the LA Times-Democrat lost subscribers it could ill afford to lose and the New York Times-Democrat added its lies about a pro-Nazi Schwarzenegger to its ghastly incompetence in the Jason Blair fiasco.

CBS was forced to scratch The Reagans because the network grossly underestimated the intensity and organization of a very broad, connected and informed conservative majority in America. Books like Bias show Leftism is bankrupt and dishonest.

Academia is facing increasing scrutiny and ridicule as its absurd, surreal hatred of all things good about America becomes more and more commonly understood. The salient fact in this area: students are much more conservative than their faculty and much less willing to be cowed into submission.

The political landscape has changed as well. The Republican Party is now, unquestionably, the majority party in America. Men who once were listened to in the Democrat Party - Ed Koch, Zell Miller, and Andrew Cuomo - now throw up their hands in frustration at a political party that weighs the political consequences of fighting terrorism.

The picture around the world looks even bleaker for Leftists. When President Bush is reelected, the evolution of Iraq into a tolerant nation of ordered liberty is assured. The mullahs of Iran will lose power and be replaced, inevitably, by secular and pro-American leaders. The changes in these two nations will not just transform the Middle East, but Islam itself.

Castro will die soon, and Cuba will live again. Germany will soon have a political party sympathetic, rather than unsympathetic, to our goals. Revelations that the ruling Social Democrat Party was infested with Stasi spies and the sleazy way in which Schroeder won his last election will mean that the next Chancellor of Germany will want to mend relations with America quickly.

Everything points in the same direction: the outcome of the war between Leftism and ordered liberty is certain. Conservatives and other normal people will win this war. Marxists, Fascists, Socialists, Nazis, Islamic totalitarians and other Leftists will lose. As that fact becomes clearer, the orderly retreat of the Left will become a rout.

I agree with what most of this article says. The left's war on America will never quite end, but I believe they are going to have an official D-Day landing with the re-election of Bush. I also agree that the economy is going to be the deciding factor in Bush getting elected, because the left can't touch on national defense.

I really don't see how the moral decay and degradation that our nation has undergone can ever be undone. Does anyone use the phrase "pre-marital sex" anymore? The concept is laughable in today's society. Saying that Republicans win and Democrats lose is not the same thing as a victory of right over wrong. It's a hollow victory because the damage has been done and you can't put the genie back in the bottle. The underpinnings of any society are religion, morality, personal responsibility, selflesness, and thrift. Those concepts don't represent the lifestyles of a majority of Americans. Far from it. Hedonism, selfishness, and immaturity characterize too many of us.

I don't believe in false optimism, and I see that the "cultural revolution" has taken root and grown and engulfed our society. How can we turn back the clock now?

All this is good news and the trends do seem to favor a shift from the left and toward the right. Let's not underestimate the Anti-American left and their entrenched political machine.

A more accurate assessment of the political and cultural landscape suggests that we are evenly divided with trends moving right.

Elections are decided not by the lefties or the righties who have made up there minds long before election day. They are decided by about 30% of Americans who don't pay much attention to politics until the last few weeks before election day. These people aren't particularly political to begin with and we will be heavily targeted by the mainstream media and press in ways that will leave no doubt as to the entrenchment of liberal idealogues and there ability to play towards the emotions of last minute voters.

It has been increasingly clear to many Americans that the left in this country can't win the battle of ideas, but then again, they never aquired power based on the substence of thier ideas...they aquired it by manipulating emotions and tapping into the fears of various groups of voters.

We can't depend solely on the powers of our ideas to win elections, even though that is ultimately the war to be won.

I have little doubt that the left will engage in tactics of collusion with the major media outlets to work the middle of the electorate into the most irrational emotional state right before election time to leave us unable to advance logic and reason to aleviate these concerns if we aren't well prepared.

I'm a Constitutional Conservative and owe no allegiance to any party, but the defeat of the left in this country is my primary concern for the future of our Republic.

How soon people forget, Shrew (you sure don't sound like a shrew.) Now it is taken as a given that the GOP will hold the House, but between 1930 and 1994, the Dems had it for something like 60 years. Ironically enough, shortly after the Soviet Union collapsed, the Democrats lost their hold on Congress. And on that subject, I will never forget how depressed the NY Times was in its coverage of the fall of Communism. All they could talk about was how dangerous things would get now. It's been a bad couple of decades for the Times.

I think the author - perhaps unwittingly - fails to acknowledge several points on the fall of Leftism that don't necessarily suit his needs:

1. 9/11/01 - Political Consultant types are now referring to "Security Moms" instead of Soccer Moms.

2. The Impeachment of William Jefferson Clinton!

3. The several hundred member defection of Elected Democrats - nationwide - following the 1994 election.

4. The near immediate retirement of Leftist Icons following the 1994 elections - Pat Schroeder for one - knowing that they would not return to the majority.

Shrew, if you're correct (and I think you are), we owe a huge debt to two people who were principally responsible for this:

1. Newt Gingrich.

Newt came up with the strategy of nationalizing congressional elections

2. Rush Limbaugh.

Rush is called the "Majority Maker" because he had a huge influence on the 1994 congressional elections. He deserved a medal for his work in electing a Republican congress.

Don't believe that "its a 50/50 country" crap. Thats typical September 10th thinking. The country is leaning slightly right and recent polls also corraborate this. Also, the 2002 election should have been a win for the democrats, yet it was one that was one of the worst defeats in American political history. That middle third of the country realizes that 911 changed everything and we can't screw around anymore. The democrats don't get that and its apparent because they are going to nominate the hateful Howard Dean.

Now, your point about resting on our laurels is right on. The left relies on their political machine to keep themselves in power. Using the wholly DNC-owned media, the unions, and government schools, they can win some elections. And when that does not work, they steal them. And when that does not work, they shop bunko lawsuits to political hacks acting as judges.

Things can only go right if people will remember who the real enemies are. If some people develop the attitude that "Bush is no different from the Dims," then Ol' Crusty just might be waddling her fat butt back into the Oval Office. A protest vote does no good if it puts a rabid socialist in office.

I'd say that the country is probably 55/45 or even more on the conservative side at this point. The two things that have kept it close are a) buying of votes and corruption at the polls; and b) news media that have grown more and more biased by the hour.

But it looks as if the media finally may have gone too far. You won't find the average non-political joe six-pack saying that all the media are liars, but they unconsciously trust them less and less, the farther they all go out on a limb. The internet makes it harder to lie, but the obvious viciousness and nastiness of the way they treat Bush and others whom they hate probably reaches more people.
