This robbery was so poorly executed that it is the joke of the county. To the LE officers, it was like shooting fish in a barrel. They had the bumbling fools within an hour or so. LOL!

These ARs also had 30-round banana clips in them with 223 rounds

Yep. 223 rounds in a 30 round clip. Kind of like how this article is ten pounds of s*** in a five pound bag.

Okay, so it's just a dropped period. Still...

"... and they travel forever"

Wow. That's a long time. Where can I get me one of them "forever" guns?

...and they travel forever...

These little puppies have laser booster stages that allow them to leave the solar system. < / sarcasm>

Give me a break!

...which can penetrate care doors...

"Care" doors? Does this joint have an editor or what?

"These ARs also had 30-round banana clips in them with 223 rounds, which can penetrate care doors, bodies, windows ... and they travel forever," Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department spokesman Kim Allyn said.

It is so refreshing to get a description of firearms and ammunition that is accurate and free from emotion - NOT! What a moron - like these special "assault bullets" from an "illegal" "assault rifle" can somehow violate the laws of physics. Idiot - no wonder the public is misinformed.

As a silent alarm at the bank was alerting authorities to the robbery, police were responding to bomb threats at Soquel High School, Aptos High School and Cabrillo College.

Police said those threats were a distraction set by the robbers.

Well, these guys were not entirely stupid. Dishonest, yes, but not stupid.

At first I thought this was a parody, but sadly it's real. "Care" doors? Almost any round can penetrate a car door, window or bullet - hell, even a bb can do most of that. And traveling forever- maybe in space, miss-spokes-person, but not here on earth.

They carry them in the same stores that sell the completely plastic guns that can't be detected; right next to the "cop-killer" bullets.

"Who knows how many deaths could have occurred if these rifles had made it to the streets." -Bill Lockyer

Well here's a perfect news byte for you to distort and use to terrify people, Mr Lockyer. Just remember it was high powered assault rifles that robbed the bank and fled, not criminals who weren't lucky in life's lottery.

"Police have not released the names of the suspects"

However the AR-15s, being well known felons in their own right, were not extended this courtesy. Neither were the “Banana Clips” members of the famous clip gang.

Am I the only one who finds this a little strange?

In this case, zero.

I didn't think that the eludium core bullets were on the market yet.

It would have been much more sporting had the robbers used .308 bolt action rifles instead.

Ah. Will an NRA card get me in, or do I have to know the secret knock too? ;)

Ah yes, the much-anticipated spate of "assault rifle" incidents leading up the the sunset of the 1994 "Assault Rifle" ban.

Somewhat misleading is the "223 rounds." Gives the impression that it was carrying that many bullets. In fact, they are referring to the .223 caliber of each round.

'Banana Clip'. This never fails to amuse me. Conjures up images of Miami Vice.

Buckle up fellas, it's time to frighten Mr. and Mrs. America again into thinking this happens every day. We'll see plenty more of these stories right up to the Sunset.

Sheesh.

Hey! I used to live there. Aptos High School Class of '80. A bedroom community of rich liberals, environmentalists, and recalcitrant hippies located just south of Santa Cruz halfway from there to Monterey.

Most of these folks think a bannana clip is something to hang fruit with--or smoke it if so inclined... I'm suprised these guys had to use assault rifles. They probably could have done it with harsh language.
